At least, it seems to be the case for some people. However, note, though, the people making harsh political opinions are not having to face those that would do more than smacking their face. 😉

The old saying in school was, "OK. why don't you say it to my face ..then ****?" 😡

Notice the people that people complain about 24/7 are normally hundreds or thousands of miles away. 😛

I think the internet is a good thing. 😛 It lets you say what you really feel, with no threat of being beat the crap out of. You know, beating the crap out of someone for their opinion isn't democratic... haha

Yeah, but people are just saying these opinions in areas where nobody will hassle them at all.

Sometimes the people who talk tough online are actually tough in real life and will fight if given the chance. I've seen people give out their real home address and phone number daring people to come fight them.

Of course I think that's a stupid thing to do, but it just shows that not everyone behind a computer sceeen is some nerdy weakling who is too afraid to speak their mind IRL.

I'd say if your position is the one that's on sturdy ground then you can rebut any attempt to dismantle it by speaking without the need for threats or violence. The only person who goes the route of threats and violence is the one who lost the argument because if you had a way to dismantle an opposing argument then why wouldn't you just do that and skip all the threats, violence and the like? It doesn't matter how far or close they are to you when they say it. If it is true then it will stand any attack against it and if it can't then that's when the threats and violence get wheeled out to bolster that belief because it can't stand on its own because it's not standing on the sturdy ground which is truth.

Are you serious Jason!? Why would you start a topic like this, do you wanna fight me or something?

Well, I just find it amusing that these extreme opinions would cause mass harassment outside a comfort zone. Oh, yes, I am well aware certain tough guys/gals post opinions, but if you're in a sea of the enemy, then it doesn't matter.

People mouth off to unpopular people all the time. Note, though, the term unpopular - signifies that the hated person is vastly outnumbered.

The truth has never been popular. If you plan on speaking truth, plan on being a very lonely individual. It has always been that way and it will always be that way. People don't like being confronted with the thought that they spent days, weeks, even years believing and living by falsehoods and lies. The number of people who believe something has no bearing on its validity but I will say it's often the case that what the majority believes is usually dead wrong.

I love what you're saying but such a path is easier said than done.

Yes, It is a difficult road to take and one not often taken but it is always the worthwhile one to take even when it often doesn't look like it. The thing to do before you can take either road is counting the costs.

You can either count the costs of speaking up and find yourself more than enough reasons to stay silent or you can count the costs of not speaking up and find more than enough reasons to speak. The costs you count are what will determine what you do when that situation arises.

I think the appearance of weakness - being skinny or something can massively increase bullying, but rest assured, unpopular opinions get heat on anyone.
