I am currently trying to better the SEO for my website.
I used the keyword tool on google adwords to find keywords/phrases that are relevant to my website. After searching several "Exact" keywords relevant to my website, i choose 10 keywords with alot of monthly searches, but not too much as im starting out & i think it will be slightly easier to get better rank in the less used keywords. I also checked the competition on each keyword/phrase & went for low - med competition. I then added these keywords into my website/webpage <head> & then started to build article, blog, forum & web-directory back-links to my website using the keywords/phrases i choose as the anchor text in the backlinks.

This is as much as i have done so far regarding keyword targeting.
Is there anything about what iv done that you would consider wrong?
Is there anything else that i should do to improve what iv done already?
Is there something that im not doing in regards to keyword targeting that i should be doing to help improve my results in the top search engines?

Please comment on this thread with your thoughts as im quite new to the SEO game & will appreciate any help, tips, information, etc.. given to me! Thanks!

I would convert urls to to static ones:
Code:
http://www.xboxlivefan.org/viewforum.php?f=107&sid=88daa81da3ab5546023106e92551be7c
to
Code:
http://www.xboxlivefan.org/Xbox-Live-Fan-Reviews/Game-Reviews-f107.html

And do that same with all the urls on your site. And make sure that SE's can not crawl dynamic urls; that would couse duplicate content.

Site worth to take a look: http://www.phpbb-seo.com/<br /><br />-- 02 May 2012, 18:35 --<br /><br />And targeting on few keywords is the right direction, yes 😎

YES it helps a lot having clean URL's instead of page.php?id=46463135466879.

But what if i have already build a far amount of backlinks to the URLs iv got.
Are they all a waste now, if i change to the clean URLs ?

redirect them or do a combination of redirect + rewrite that way they still work.

Yeah, but a forum has thousands od pages, i can possibly redirect every URL :S

If you want to change those for SEO, do it NOW because once you change them, all past spiders and such to those URLs will lose ranking in Google.

Do you have to sign up for adwords to use that device?

Hmm in most cases if you backlink to yoursite/index.php that will be fine, as in time once found bots and crawlers will look into the whole site anyway, adding a sitemap will speed the process up.

Another thing to do is build up internal and outgoing links on your site, google especially loves them, you are telling google that your site is well mapped.

Is their a way of redirecting all the ID urls that iv backlinked to to the new word urls ?

Also what whats if i change the title of a thread?
Then i would have to change the link. Then by changing the link, i would then have 2 wrong urls out there (the id one & the old word one)

Where do i create a site-map?
Do i do it manually or is there a software or website or something to help me do this?

Sitemaps can be a bit tricky to set up, unless you know what you are doing, I use an online sitemap generator which does all the hard work for you, it will even ping google and bing.

Once you've done your sitemap you then have to think of Robots.txt, this little file tells the bots where not to go, google robots.txt for info on how to set the file up.
