When I met my fiance Karen, I didn't know much or heard about Systemic Lupus. But Lupus is becoming more well known and treatment is getting better. I was wondering if anyone knows someone who's living with lupus, maybe it's a family or friend. Sharing lupus awareness saves lives. Karen has had Lupus since age 16. Back in 1980's, there wasn't much they could do for Lupus and it was a fatal illness. But even today, since it's treatable, a person with Lupus "must" get proper care. Karen is a 32 year survivor of Sle Lupus
It would be interesting to know how many of us know about Lupus and might know someone with this illness?

Sorry to hear that your loved one has this disease. I did a little research on it before, because someone I know had symptoms a little like it, but thankfully it wasn't it and their symptoms cleared up. I haven't actually known anyone with it.

Thank you for the reply. If Lupus isn't caught in time, it can effect major organs and result in Kidney Failure or heart problem. If it is caught, a person can only have rashes(Disciod Lupus) and not be fatal.

I'm sorry to hear that as well, but I'm not really clear as to what Lupus is but if I did I would love to do something about it if I could. 😉

What Is it?.

Fp donates to charitys I think, maybe this would be a good cause?.

My Aunt died of Lupus a few years ago, when I was in the middle of my 6th grade year. She fought for a good some amount of years, but gave up soon because her Lupus would flare up, worse than the last. Seeing doctors and scientist researching things for small bugs and the sort, gets me mad that they could actually be spending more time into more serious things like Cancer, Lupus, Leukemia, etc...

-- 16 Jan 2013, 01:53 --

Basically, Lupus is a disease that causes the immune to attack its self, or so I've heard. I, too, have little knowledge on what exactly it is, or what each type of Lupus does.

Sorry about your Fiance, Guy. Will be praying for you guys... but aren't most cancers still fatal, though? I know technology has improved over the years, which means more treatment options are available than they were, say, twenty years ago... but I thought most cancers were as deadly now as they were back then?

Anyway, I don't know if it's exactly Lupus, so to speak, but this one gentleman that I grew up going to for an orthodontist has had cancer in general for a few years. We started going to a new dentist in December of 2011 because of this. Our former was only available on Fridays if it was emergency work that needed to be done with one's teeth, but even in those cases trying to get a hold of this man was like trying to find a needle in the haystack sometimes. I remember one time I had sort of a bad toothache that needed to be looked at like NOW, because you never know, it could be anything! Well, we tried getting a hold of the former dentist only to hear from his secretary that he was out of the office. Eventually, his absences became so numerous that we decided to change dentist's altogether, which has helped a lot because should this guy pass away, we won't be scrambling trying to find a new dentist to go to! Well, we wouldn't have had to worry about that anyway, because last I heard our former has sold half of his deal to some guy from Chicago who used to come sub for him all the time, well now the office belongs to the new guy Our former's name is still in the prayer for the sick list in mine and Mom's Church bulletin, so it must not be looking good for him. So ours does have cancer, I just don't know if it's lupus or what it is... I remember there was an article about his condition in our local paper some years ago (before we started going to his next door neighbor for appts.) and I can't remember if they said what he had/has.

Brian Fan Lupus isn't cancer. There are over 200 different types of cancer and although they are all serious, many of them are not terminal and have very high recovery rates. As with all diseases early detection and diagnosis is very important.

I always thought it was...sorry. There's just so many illnesses/diseases it's hard to keep track of everything these days. Especially when you consider the fact that some illnesses/diseases and affect you just as badly as others can and can also have the same or similar symptoms at times. I apologize for that. Health was not my best subject in school unfortunately.
