KonaBoards - Remotely Hosted Forums!

@Connor+ you understand your digging yourself a bigger and bigger hole.

I think that Raymond and Orc have a valid point. As such, can you give us at least 10 clear differences between your software and Navboard, excluding any stylistic modifications? If you can give us these then we may acknowledge that you did put some effort into it.

Here are a few more questions which may help convince us. 🙂

a. How long have you been using NavBoard?

b. Have you ever created a navboard modification.

c. Have you ever been a member of a host or forum host's support staff?

d. How much disk space bandwidth does wehostyourinfo provide to you?

Never really used NavBoard,
I am still developing it into a new software though.
Currently I am re doing the profile page, I am also trying to add a group legend, as well as add a latest topics feature,
I have already partialy edited the index page and admin control panel.

So alot of changes have already been done.

Template Wise, I have switched the login position, I have made a new online and stats table. Pretty Much Completely Redone.

I have also edited the category tables.

Still working though.

Connor, you really don't help yourself much. I highly doubt you have done much (if any changes to the software). If as you claimed earlier there is "Not much left of the original code.", then you must have been working flat out since your last project last week and must have done some very quick testing and security checking on your code. As if there is "Not much left of the original code" that would mean that you basically changed all their code and replaced it with exactly the same code to have the same features (you didn't even add a CAPTCHA which would be one of the first things i would do especially nowadays with the software spammers use). Changing the appearance slightly doesn't really count. You have backtracked alot in this topic as you have gone from near enough re-writing the whole forum to only partially editing the index page and re-writing the ACP.

Additionally, before starting a host like this, you should really have proper hosting sorted. 600mb bandwidth is not enough to host many forums (We use more then that per day here). You have to remember that all actions you make from now on will affect your users. If you give up then people are left without a forum or if you keep them up, they will be left with a very outdated forum and completely stuck. Thats just my opinions on it anyway. I think everyone here does have valid points and surely you can understand why people are doubting what you are saying.

Just in case you did not see...

I have a few questions for you...

What makes your services better than the hundreds of free forum hosts already out there?

What makes you think that members will use your software, it certainly doesn't seem to be heard of?

Reliability...All established free forum hosts are very reliable, but what makes your "reliable"?

Domain...You don't seem to have one?

Are you making this free, because you can't offer a premium hosting service or planning to make profit off ads later on?

Also interested. 😀

So your telling me if umm Microsoft goes out of bussiness I can re-start up the xbox? NO! lol lawl...

It is still under copyrights and you cannot take someone's work which you just admitted to, And re-use it. As no matter if a project dies it still was created by someone else and is copyrighted from that one person.
I concur if that board he used was under gee idk the MIT License he could do whatever he wants with it. I hate seeing people like you bashing on someone who is trying to learn things.

I know I use to learn things from taking parts from other web templates.

Now as for connor I think it would be better if you helped with another already established project. Maybe mybb or smf =].

I do find it quite funny that you are making a remote hosted forum when you don't even have a domain.

Thank you.
Glad someone realized what license it was under.
If someone would have even checked the files from navboard they would notice that rebranding, even selling, and modifying are legal.

Here is a design concept for the support forum.

A Design team member created it.

Yes well I knew that, but still calling it your own work and saying it is completely redone is a flat out lie. Theres no denying it. Using a script that hasn't been updated since 2005 doesn't seem to be a good option, it is without a doubt extremely insecure, better to get some people together and develop a new script where it'll be easier to make updates and keep your users boards secure and updated.

Not really.
Gimgak, I appreciate your advice, but I have many people helping improve this software.
No turning back now.

May I ask how you plan to stop from injections ect.. for hacking? As to be honest I'm not threatening or anything or in anyway I'm just saying Mysql injection is one of the top ways to hack a website. How do you stop this? or do you plan to?

I'm sorry, but I agree. I can't believe all these comments I'm reading. You do realize that you can get in trouble for this, with or without a license right? This is called Plagarism (not sure if that's spelled correctly).

I'm working on releasing one on phpbb. Do you want to help. 😉

I actually like this but I think there are soo many boxes in it but apart from that it looks good.

Read my post about that. If navboard is under the MIT or any other open source license he can do what he wants with it. Now if it is under the GPL he does have to give credit to the original maker.
