Yes well I knew that, but still calling it your own work and saying it is completely redone is a flat out lie. Theres no denying it. Using a script that hasn't been updated since 2005 doesn't seem to be a good option, it is without a doubt extremely insecure, better to get some people together and develop a new script where it'll be easier to make updates and keep your users boards secure and updated.

I'm sorry, but I agree. I can't believe all these comments I'm reading. You do realize that you can get in trouble for this, with or without a license right? This is called Plagarism (not sure if that's spelled correctly).
Read my post about that. If navboard is under the MIT or any other open source license he can do what he wants with it. Now if it is under the GPL he does have to give credit to the original maker.
Whether breaking copyright laws or not, it's still rude not to give credit where it's due. The least he can do is honor the time and effort that went into NavBoard. Otherwise, he is basically "lying by omission".

Maybe so and I agree he should give credit, but like I said if the software was under a open source license he doesn't have to.

Yes, that is what is in the license and he's free to do with it what he wants.
It's like saying you actually wrote the PLR articles you have on a site or are selling; even though the copyright allows that... still. And like I said before this software must be insecure. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find exploits; security has changed since 2005.

Also, another relevant question, why chose a 5 year old software you have no experience with? It is not only low quality, but why are you the one to start a free host for that particular software if you have never used it before in your life? In my opinion, it would be better to make a MyBB host with credit.

This.

Especially since there is a free mybb multi forum mod available that is actually good apart from a few annoyances.

Changing a theme isn't really changing the software.
It's easier to start a new script then try and update the countless security holes in a 5 year old script.

I'd say your wrong on that one.
We have modified the files as well.
Compare them side be side.
We already have more features.

Also, have you ever tried to code a forum software?

Well, I have.
It's not easy.

Exactly. What you're doing isn't any easier. You're updating an ancient script which like I said definitely will not be up to current standards. You can base parts of a new script on navboard, but a complete overhaul won't be easy. I know enough about this not to attempt it on my own since I know I would fail at it. Maybe you won't, maybe you will. Working with this instead of mybb, smf, or phpbb is just making it a lot harder on yourself.

Here are the problems I see:

1. We can't compare them side by side, can we? You do not offer a download.

2. Sure you can modify it, but making it good is different.

3. You can make a new software out of MyBB or phpBB as long as you give credit to the original makers, can't you? As I said, just say "Powered by MyBB, Hosted and modified by KonaBoard".

4. What happens after you run out of your 600 MB bandwidth?

5. I have tried to code a forum software, so yes.

6. Running a hosting service isn't "easy". If you had your customers in mind, then "easy" would be the last thing to come to mind on your end.

I gotta agree with this I think it would be better to help on a already established forum software.

I actually set up a test board on a free host viewable here: http://navboard.300mb.in/forum

Still looks pretty identical...
NavBoard can be downloaded, but we cannot compare the source code to KonaBoard. Also, Connor never did list the 10 differences I asked for.

Oh my bad misread that. Yes as you can see in this topic connor has barely answered any of the questions people asked. He went from stating that almost nothing of the original code is left to just saying the license allows for what he is doing (which is true but why lie in the first place?)

@cONNor also not very smart to delete people's post of your site for no reason what so ever even if you dislike them.

600MB of traffic is nothing.
You're going to need a lot more.
