That's most likely because members want to see the index of your forum and then they will register. Most people would not like to register and then(Not talking about your forum) end up seeing that they registered to a shitty forum.

Since you spent 150 dollars on a license for IPB(Or maybe you have a nulled version). Why not get a domain.
