Just wondering if some of the members here can name some large active forums that are hosted on free forum hosts. I'm talking about forums with membership in at least the thousands.

A robin hood forum i am on has

paid hosts maybe better, but there are people like me who have no way of paying for them

I just didn't know i had an option before i made mine. I was only on one forum ever before creating my forum 😛

And, I really didn't expect it to do much in the beginning

I guess it doesn't matter, since your forum is pretty successful anyway.

But if you could start over again, would you go the same route?

Good god, no 😀 Would defenitely be on a paid host. I have spent 100's of dollars advertising, and 100's of dollars in Wii Points for members. And about $14 a month to remove advertisements. I only wish I had a conversion option.

Money isn't the issue. I'd convert to anything; if it were possible. But, I can't tranfer members and posts. Everyone who has tried to help me; and thought it could be done, it just can't from proboards.

You can with IPB i think 😀

Probaoards do not offer backup files for thier forums. And that's the one thing holding everyone back, who wants to convert their forums from PB's.

Believe me, if it were possible, and the thought came up ... I have tried.

You can use a crawler convert to SMF ( free ) then convert to where ever you want or stay

If someone can figure this out; and do it correctly ... there's a pot of gold in your future 😉
