Obviously most individuals don't intensely analyze every design they see, but little details (often having to do with realism) change their thoughts of the design subconsciously. In this signature, you basically have created the effect of three photographs on top of each other. It seems much more realistic to have three pieces of paper on top of each other, one with an image on it, does it not? My suggestion to you is to change the blending options of all three images as follow.
The black stroke is a bit anesthetically pleasing. I suggest changing it to a light gray stroke with a width of one pixil. Give the bottom two images a color overlay of white so they look like ordinary pieces of paper, as opposed to the spiderman render. Thirdly, give each piece of paper a subtle drop shadow. I suggest a distance of 0, an opacity of 15-20%, and a size of 4. Finally, create a selection of the spiderman render that is on your top piece of paper.
Select >> Modify >> Contract
Enter the digit '5' and press OK. Right click the selection, click on 'Select Inverse,' and, making sure you still have your spiderman render layer selected, press delete.
I guarantee your image will look better if you follow the steps I have outlined above.
@Dav: Thanks 🙂 altough the maximum dimensions for the signatures on that contest are: 500x250 (normal) and 250x500 (vertical).
@A Nonny Moose: I already used a lot of techniques like that for avatars(including shading and perspective). But this was just a signature and I wanted to make a lil more different border 🙂 It has nothing to do with realism.
It's nice, but it's messy your focal point isn't really the focus I keep on getting distracted by the other effects. The blending is decent, but you used too many c4d's the flow of the sig is all over the place and there is hardly any depth. The lighting is also almost non existent, but your smudging is fantastic. Also try not overwhore Topaz it looks great in small amounts, but also ruins sigs. Your border however, kicks so much ass it's awesome!
