Official Review of Lazy Forums
by John

First Impressions:
Interesting choice to go with the name "Lazy Forums" - I like it. It represents the "chill" type atmosphere that you're attempting to create on your forum. This name does work pretty well; it does a good job telling me exactly what's awaiting me on your forum.

Lots of times, forum owners will make gigantic headers in an attempt to accomplish literally nothing. I see you've taken a different road, and I like it. With just a quick look (without even scrolling), you're able to see the basic areas of the forum. Content, without even needing to look for it! That's a radical idea if I've ever seen so myself. It's the good kind of radical, though. It's streamlining the process of getting your users to see your content. As I'm sure you know well, the more of your content users see, the more likely they are to post on your forum.

Good

Design Quality:
Your theme is beautiful. I'm not kidding. The theme goes wonderfully with your genre. phpBB offers an incredible amount of themes to choose from, and I'm glad to see that you've chosen one that fits your forum well. The tree/lake background goes really well with the concept of your forum ("lazy").

In an attempt to make your forum as guest friendly as possible, I'd recommend that you make more of the links in your top navigation bar viewable to guests. I cannot view the "Memberlist" and "Contest Points" areas of your forum. I understand that you want to keep your memberlist secure; however, I'd like to know more about the "Contest Points" area of your forum. What is it? It would be very beneficial if you could allow that to be publicly viewable. It's not really a gigantic issue, but the points area, especially, should have some better guest permissions.

The footer of your theme could use a little work, though. For example: the "Important Links" and "Social" areas seem to overlap a white part of your text. While there's nothing really wrong with it, it is a little hard to read. This is by no means a deal breaking issue, but it is something to keep in mind. I'm not sure how much of the theme (if any) you made, but if you're able to put a little darkness in that area, it could greatly benefit your user's eyes when they're attempting to read.

Good

Site Structure:
I like the general idea of your forum's layout. There's no major issues with it. There aren't a ton of "issues", so to say. However, my job it to give you suggestions to improve, so I'll give you some suggestions to improve!

The main issue in your layout is the categories is how small most of them are. The "Lazy Forums" and "Other Discussions" areas have only two and one forums within them. It just feels like a tad bit of wasted space, honestly. The "Webmaster Discussion" area could very easily be moved up into the "General Discussion" area without creating any issues. With that same idea in mind, introduction forums normally seem to be the most active in the "official" type areas. It's the first place a new member looks, and it's without a doubt the place where introduction forums are put on most forums. Perhaps you're trying to do something that I don't know about, but the intro forum normally does the best when put up top. However, if where it's at right now works for you, I'd highly advise you just roll with it.

Average

The thing I liked the best: Honestly - that's a really tough question. I really liked the design, but the whole forum just had a feel of freshness to it.
The thing I liked the least: I'll admit this was a tough review: there's nothing "wrong" with your site at all. However, I'd say some of your guest permissions. I'm interested in that "Contest Point" area.

Overall Mark:
3.5.png

If you stick with Lazy Forums, it'll do really well. I really like the design; the theme really does remind me of MyBB. That's a really good thing, because most phpBB forums look like they're stuck in 2005. You've done an awesome job of ensuring that doesn't happen to your forum, though. Best of luck with your forum in the future! I'll probably join up later.

Thanks for the review @John
You have no idea how great it is to hear that you like LF 😀. I'll begin to work on some of the suggestions you have made especially the contest points aspect. Could you provide a screenshot if possible of the footer issue? Everything seems to be fine on my side so might just be to do with screen size

I think it might be nice to create some more topics on your forum. When I was posting on your forum, I had a little bit of trouble finding places to post, and I don't usually create new topics a great deal. :O

I'm just trying to keep the forum small, for the moment anyway. I just don't to have loads of forums for it as I want the forum to be a bit basic
