Least favorite forum software?

phpBB. (heh, ironic, seeing as how FP runs on it) It's ACP is ehh, installing mods is a pain, and I don't really like it's general appearance. Quite clunky, IMO.

Has to be phpBB. I don't like how complicated everything has to be with it especially uploading a new theme and plugin.

My favourite is Phpbb. It's easy to use, you can easily add themes and plugins and is easy and simplistic for new users to the forum industry. Also it's ACP and MCP are simple allowing staff to perform there duties simply and quickly as a pose to going through several million tabs.

I would have to agree with both of you about phpBB.

Forumotion. I despise it and I've seen very few (maybe 1-2) forums built on it that were quality. I don't know how it is now, but their admin/back-end experience used to be god-awful. Their member experience wasn't (and isn't) any better either.

I'm not a fan of phpBB's back-end but from a front/member perspective it's not bad when it has a decent theme (like FP does).

My answer is funny because it is actually Phpbb too and FP is using it. Having used Mybb, Xenforo, IPB, smf and Phpbb in the past, I have to say that phpbb is probably my least favourite. That is because the modifications for Phpbb 3.0 is a pain and their ACP isn't user friendly in my opinion. However Phpbb 3.1 seems much better. With Phpbb 3.1, I think my least favourite software would become smf. Phpbb 3.1 has a lot of new features and adding extensions became so much easier.

Proboards. It just looks unprofessional and not worth using at all. I tend to stay away from forums that are running on this software. 😛

Probably IPboard, just because me and my friends thinks it a piece of s**t

Favorite is for sure MyBB

@Geoffrey, @Mikaya - Forumotion and ProBoards - neither of those are forum software, they're free forum hosts. (and crappy ones, I might add, but just my opinion 😀)

IMO the only good free forum hosts are ZetaBoards and IcyBoards.

@Undoxable - Really? What don't you like about it?

I'd say SMF. I never really liked how it works, although I also haven't used it too much.

Mine would have to be phpBB do to the lack of friendly usability.

Why do people hate SMF so much? 🙁

It's pretty much the same as MyBB except the admin panel in embedded in the user page and not a sperate place of its own.

SMF is just so old school and there is hardly anything available for it. (Plugin's, theme's, etc.)

Vanilla Forums and phpBB because they are the least user friendly forum software. It's 2015: both should have wysiwyg editors NOT bbcode and markdown. I'm not sure whether it's just the Vanilla Forums board I'm on but so many things seem to break regularly. 🙁

I'm not active on any SMF boards. I think the scorn for SMF board users over the last few years have pushed people away from using what is a very good software.

I am also a fan of phpBB too 😀 I have never try SMF so anyone can please give my some brief information?
Thank you so much 🙂

My least favorite would have to be Vanilla, I just find it a tad outdated and not really support within the community. However SMF is also part of my list of "least faves" simply because it's not up to par with everyone else, nor are the extensions (let alone themes) really anything to woo about.

Probably something like how I really like ZB/IPB because I'm used to using them -- and have positive sentiments due to that, even though I haven't been active on any forums on either software in probably two or three years. On the other hand I've never liked VB, although xenForo is nice, because I had a bad first impression. Also, Undoxable, is it because you've already been dox'd?

Also PBv5 is seemingly much better than old PB, and I can actually browse forums on it rather than gag and it has good features. It's successfully been the only one to improve my impression, so it gets points for that.

Least favorite is decisively all those flat forums that constitute the majority of software that no one uses, with no organizational structure, intended to mimic social networks. The Wikipedia page of forum software once had like 10-20 of these, but they've all rotted and lost popularity to such an extent the citations necessary for them to be given an article (and thus placement on a list) are no longer present, as they've been deleted due to embarrassment. I saw a lot when I first wanted to develop a forum software. They're abhorrent.

In terms of something that realistically constitutes a forum software, one of the free forum hosts of old would be worst. Today, probably a remnant. I'd say VB for the paid forums (Does anyone still use it?) and probably PBv5 or Forumotion PunBB for the modern free forums. No comment on Icyboards because I've never actually used a forum on there; I've only heard of it.

Out of the ones that I've used personally (phpBB, bbPress, Xenforo, and MyBB) I'm gonna have to say that my least favorite was bbPress. I mean, it is easier to make it look nicer than phpBB, but the issue was the limited capabilities. It just didn't have the features I was looking for.
