We've sort of discussed this in other topics but I figured I would make a separate one for it.

What do you guys think? Make the US like the Netherlands where prostitution is legal and prostitutes are scanned for STDs and the like?

That's what the laws are in Nevada and what they should be in the rest of the states. Or at least have counties vote on whether or not to legalize it like they have in Nevada.

Well it seems as though it would make prostitution safer for both people, if the prostitutes would be tested, but I think people buying the services should be tested as well. It sounds like a hassle, but it would keep things safer, I would assume.

Make condoms required by law. It's not 100% fool proof but having everyone tested wouldn't make a whole lot of sense.

This is really an issue I can see both sides... would legalizing it help the sex trade or make the sex trade worse?

They're going to do it anyhow, as they have shown. At least do it as safe as possible and legalize it. If it was legal to be done, most pimps wouldn't have to kidnap girls to make an income, they would just hire normal aged girls. It will still happen of course, but I am sure at a much lower rate.

Looking at both sides, it seems that legalizing it is the lesser of the two evils.

Yeah, I'd say condoms would definitely be required and would make more sense! I didn't think of that one 😛

And I do think legalizing it could help control the trafficking of young girls, instead the government would have to have the age of all workers on record. So they'd have to know if someone was underage. Of course people would still find ways to get around it/run the business illegally.

I think it should be licensed but not legalised. That means that prostitutes should be put onto some sort of national register with regulations regarding STDs and sexual slavery in place. Any prostitute working who is not on the register would be breaking the law; if they were being abused (such as in the case of slavery), they would not be held accountable - that would be judged on a case by case basis. With this in place, procuring would be illegal. That way, women are protected by the law but procuring would still be illegal.

Wouldn't be used then. There is technically a national tax on weed that you have to pay if you have weed. Can't find a better way to turn yourself in than pay that.

Nice name, thought it was the president speaking to bad -_- I think if it's legal in LV USA WHy not all of USA. 🙂 Rechanged thought

This is the president, Obama likes to ask his people before making decisions.

Yes I thought the president actually wanted to do this though! Legalize prostitution. Thanks for the idea though 🙂

I am amazed that this is still a very big issue for many countries not just some states in the USA?
It's ridiculous to think that in the year 2011, with freedom of speech, freedom of choice, the right to vote and many many more liberties that the oldest profession in the world is still banned?
There will always be a need for people to use prostitutes, if legalised it would help to keep these girls safe, help could also be given better with health checks and drug monitoring and rehab. Not only would the governments save money from prosecution and court fees they would gain money from taxes on the work? Not all girls do the job for drug funding, this work can be very lucrative, drawing girls to the job, if you're not religious, have no conscience or not prude then it's a good earner, getting many women through college or university.

Bleh, I have to debate against legalising prostitution on Friday... Does anyone have any decent arguments?

Surely that would be on the grounds of morality and religion? They seem to be the strongest two arguments against it?
