Hey!

I have been wondering what the people here either consider as the career they would like or what career they are already in to. I am talking about what you would like to go to college to study (assuming you can afford it. If not, please speak theoretically) and what job you would love to be in to for the rest of your life. As this forum is mostly a teenage demographic, I am interesting in seeing how many of you have ideas of what you want to do for the rest of your lives. This is a very important issuer, because if you don't decide this for yourself someone else will probably decide it for you, or influence you to the degree that you fall into a career whether you like it or not. Regardless fo whether you know for sure or not, feel free to toss around ideas!

I will not be working at my current job as my career, though I am unsure of my career path.

I made my decision long ago. I'm going to study to become an elementary school teacher. I can't see myself doing anything else.

THT - didn't make too much sense?

I want to go into Graphic Design or some other thing. I want it to have to do with designing, programming, or making websites, because that is what I Love to do. My parents think it's a joke and only a hobby not a job. Don't get me wrong, it IS a hobby, but can be a career where you can easily make $50k+ per year.

@THT: Would you be willing to disclose what that job is, THT? (at least generally). I assure you I won't lose an ounce of respect for you if it's something like McDonalds. In fact, I have great respect for people who will work at a less enjoyable job instead of leaching off of welfare.

I am plan on becoming a software developer / programmer with C or a similar language. I am already taking college classes in this field.

@Snobo: Nice. 🙂 *mutters about liberal teachers* 😀

I thought it did, I do not wish to stay at my current job as my career, but I am unsure of what career path I should take

Reworded 🙂

EDIT: I work at Arbys. I am the Shift Manager.

@THT: Not too bad. 🙂

@Volux: you can make some pretty decent $$ working for google, apple, and other big companies in that field.

I knew you would make that comment. Don't worry, though. It doesn't faze me.

It is decent I guess. Not glorious.

I am a realist. I don't wish a lot, I realize what goes on and with my talents, what real job I could get. Dreaming is just a way to put your self down. that is how I see it. Anyway, I am going to college to get a degree in music, and music theory so possibly a music teacher or private teacher.

@Snobo: :yes:

@THT: Good luck with that. 🙂 and I think dreams do come true quite often. If you really put your all into something you can get almost any job within reason.

You have to start somewhere THT. 😉 (BTW I didn't mean that in a bad way if you took it that way).

Right now I work at my parent's store..since I am in high school still. The teacher that teaches the web design and programming courses is an idiot. So that is a DOWN for me 🙁

@Volux: Got any community colleges locally that you could take classes at? Teenagers can participate in college classes at ages as young as 14 I hear.

You can even do dual enrollment for your junior/senior years of high school in some areas. If you did that, you could graduate from high school with an associate's degree. 🙂 You might want to talk to your counselor about doing that.

Yes we have 2 college courses that are available: Programming and Graphic Design. They require you take another class..that is totally bullshit/pointless. I don't want to take it because I learned all that crap in 8th grade. So really...I don't know anymore!!!

I am already getting out of that class for a highschool class..but college will take it different..

Is it introduction to computers or something? Said college may allow you to skip it if you tell them you took the class already in highschool. I doubt a college would actually baby you, so you'll probably learn something.

The Community College where I can take 2 important classes at requires a class called Comm.Tech. (CT). This class is POINTLESS and goes over how to make powerpoints and spreadsheets...EXACTLY what I did like a year earlier.

I may want to try to test-out of this class so I can go on to the Programming and Graphic Design class.

I am getting my bachelors in Business information systems at San Diego State University.

Currently, I am a sophomore and I was required to take something like comm.tech. which is learning about powerpoints, word, excel, and other things.

Nonetheless, I needed to take that class or I don't get my degree.

I plan on going into business for myself out on the west coast, most likely a holding company.
