I typed this last night, I;m going to be making a website for him today and will continue working on it. I will add pictures in just a moment.
Life and Conditions of Edward Ameigh
The Beginning:
Just like any other morning of any individual’s life, Edward gets up and heads to work at six-thirty AM; working at a Construction Company. By seven o’clock that morning, he was laying on the ground with a broken back.
His daughter (8 years now) was only three (3) weeks old at the time of the accident. He spent the next week in ICU and doesn’t recall remembering anything that happened in the ICU. The worst news that anyone could ever possibly hear is “you will never have the chance to walk again”. From that day on, he felt that he had no reason to continue his life . . . except for the support of his family and friends.
The Aftermath:
Edward now lives with two steel rods and 9 screws in his spine with a two-inch gap between his vertebras’ . . . After several years from the time of the accident, Edward ended up getting pressure ulcers that eventually was the cause of him loosing his right leg. Even after the amputation of his right leg he continued to have open wounds on the Ishim and coccyx. After several attempts to heal the wounds; after being on several different anti-biotics’ and everything that the doctors could have possibly ordered . . . nothing seemed to work. The infection that originally caused him to loose his right leg had gotten so severe that if he would have not gone to the Hospital within 12 hours, Edward would have died.
Recent:
Today’s date . . . 8 years later . . . September 9th, 2010; Edward gets the news from the Doctor stating that he has yet to go under another procedure that will leave him with two options. One, be laid up in bed for up to 1 year or the infection could and may kill him. The infection has spread all the way to the bone of his pelvic. The Doctors are running slim on options.
Living Life:
Edward’s CNA meets with him every morning to assist him in his everyday living. Getting him motivated to get up to take a shower and get dressed for the day. There are some days that he refused to get out of the bed to start his day because of the harsh pain in his back that is so severe. All that we ask and pray for is for him to be able to live life as normally as possible, but with his circumstances…he is unable to do so due to financial problems from all of the bills. Even though his case is dealt through Workmen’s Compensation; he lives on a fixed income of only $300 a week. Not nearly enough to pay his necessary bills for life.
Edward’s Personality:
I first met Edward, or as we call him…Eddie; my sister (The CNA) brought me to his house to meet him. The first thought I had…”Wow! This guy really must love music…” Eddie has a really big passion for music and loves to be outdoors. Unfortunately with his condition, it affects his mobility to spend his life outdoors.
Eddie’s sister, Kelly, Teddy (My sister’s Boyfriend) and my sister; took Eddie to the Beach for his very first time in his life this past August. Eddie explained to all of them that even though they stayed for 1 day, it had been the best time of his life. Eddie has made a huge impact, not only on my life, but other’s as well. He is always willing to help others more then himself. He would give the shirt from his back to a complete stranger if they were in need more then him. Eddie gives so much; but asks for nothing in return but for his freedom to do as he pleases.
My graduation, June of 2010, Eddie threw me a big Graduation Pool Party. He had brought his big stereo speakers and set them outside the pool fence and we all helped set them up. He was such a great DJ that whole day. I had a great time that day.
I'm starting a fundraiser to gain him money to help buy him a new chair and help pay his bills. I will have a paypal donate button soon for anyone that wishes to donate. I will have document proof that all money goes to his bills and for a new chair.
