What do you think is the lifespan of a computer, how long before it can be considered obsolete? Our home computer is turning 8 years old in September and some say that it is very, very old and ready for the junk bin. But it's still running good with the Windows XP for its OS. Now back to the question. If I bought a new computer now, how long will it take before I should buy again?

well. depends on what u want to do with it, there computer that my parents just is just for movies, youtube and news... so i just upgraded ram and whats not for the computer

As mentioned above, it depends on what you want to do with it, but also what sort of performance headroom it has. That headroom is what shrinks over time, and determines whether the hardware is obsolete or not.

Desktops tends to last allot longer then laptops. It all comes down to how many hours you spent on it and how much effect that you take care of your system.

Most built gaming desktop last for 5 to 10 years

Keep them clean and cool while running and they last longer. I have had my gaming rig for like 7 years.

Also if you keep it running for an good amount it can be sold again for an very very low cost!!

My current computer is 5 years old and my laptop is 7 years old. They are working great for me.

As far as hardware failure itself, rather than simply obsolescence, it's not age you need to worry about, but heat. Temperature flux eventually leads to the crystallization of solder points on the PCB, which is what most often kills hardware. The more extreme the flux, the faster the damage mounts up, so keep your hardware cool!

Yeah you are right, Many times people had to replace there GPU and it goes on them from the fact that the fan stopped and it heated up so hot it went "bomb" 😛

That is way every 6 months or so is to clean out the dust

Desktops should last you upwards of a decade (as long as you aren't gaming with it).
Laptops will last for fewer years, though you should still be able to get a good five years out of a laptop before needing to replace it.
