I prefer light themes, or FP-like themes. I prefer themes which are fast to load, ie. host does have influence, but an image compacted theme influences the speed.
I prefer light themes. I rarely ever stay active at sites with a dark theme because I find it dull. Themes with lighter themes (such as general chat sites) make it more lively in my opinion. 🙂
It came as such a surprise to me that people actually like light themes more - I always thought people like dark themes 😀
I like light themes also, but not TOO white! (some are like blank pages! So-so-so white that it hurts my eyes).
I don't have a preference. I can like or dislike a theme no matter the color depending on how pleasing it is to the eyes, how fast it loads, how much to goes with the forum, ect.
I've always preferred light themes, dark themes show up bad on my monitor and I have bad eyesight so I have to go right up close to the screen when trying to read off of a dark theme.
It all depends on the genre of the forum. A gaming site for example, they tend to use only dark themes to make them look more.. Fierce and competitive. A general discussion forum would usually be a light to make the users want to come back and make them feel happy.
I don't think it matters really. FP used to have a dark theme as its default and I loved it. But I generally see gaming boards as dark and business, advertising and general chat as light themes.
