Limewire shut down

What's Limewire? 😛

There are plenty of places to continue your free music reign on if you know where to look. I personally pay for music I like to support artists that I like to see succeed.
Artists hardly get anything from record sales. If you want to support an artist, just go to his/her concerts.

Streaming music isn't legal, like I said "streaming" = downloading, there is no difference.
Sure, literal streaming is downloading. But that term is used loosely these days, and means a lot of things.

It is legal if the online radio station pay a licensing fee or have permission from the record companies to buy or have the rights to stream music online from a record company like Sony, warner, etc. You just need to apply for it at https://www.ascap.com/weblicense/license.html

But, a large percentage of online radio stations just stream music without paying license fees to the rightful owner of the music.

I agree that there are more bad points (in my opinion) and that it is theft just like stealing a cd from a shop.
I disagree with this, reason being when you steal a CD from a shop you take a physical copy from them. Downloading is no different than buying a CD, copying it onto your PC, and returning it IMO.
That's totally off I hate to tell you. Buying a CD and copying it onto your PC, you are PAYING. You give the money to the store, who takes a cut, then the distributor who takes a cut, then the record company, who gets a cut, then the artist, who gets a cut. You download it for free, and no one gets anything.

And yet they (the companies and artists) still make billions of dollars each year, and still live in mansions while people like you and me are forced to live low/middle class working our asses off every day.

You can't shut down a P2P network. They may have shut down the company, the support, and any upgrades, but they have not shut down the network, and it'd be impossible to do so without first shutting down the entire internet.

As for the piracy debate... I support the Pirate Party. They exist world wide and the Swedish one has a seat in the European Parliament. Check it out.

For anyone who supports the entertainment industry on this, I recommend downloading Steal This Film. Go torrent or stream it, its creators have allowed that.

Or, if you don't want to watch a full length film on it, check these raps out:

...Those are created by an independent artist, BTW.

I would also like to add Stanza Maze - Download This to the collection, as they made a nice front page premier on TPB. And of course, you can download their album off TPB legally.

This is another good rap on the subject, makes fun of both sides:

Wow, I'm actually agreeing with Snobo?! Though it is more like a fact rather than opinion.

That's totally off I hate to tell you. Buying a CD and copying it onto your PC, you are PAYING. You give the money to the store, who takes a small cut, then the distributor who takes a cut, then the record company, who gets the majority of the money, then the artist, who gets a peon share.
Fixxxed. Though the thing is small record companies give more to their artists.

Unfortunately, this type of activity will continue because large corporations own governments around the world.

I never used limewire (too many virus). I use soulseek, mtorrent and emule only. But I am sad about closing.

The artists still get something guys. You're all acting like they aren't getting anything and the artists who use record companies like the majority are dirt poor. Mick Jagger's net worth is somewhere in the 200 millions, all those stupid rappers have millions of dollars, honestly, these artists will have more money from you doing it the normal way. Not from you going to their concerts. Just pay like everyone else does.

I must be confused with another software then but I am sure that there was a program before limewire.

Snobothehohoho makes a good point, globalization and the economics of multinational corporations do play a key role in politics. However, Limewire is not that powerful.

I used LW a few times, with virus issues and more, stopped using it. I never shared files, but I was always concerned someone was watching me. Wold hate to get a fat bill from the record companies or accused of something else due to a masked file.
