LimeWire, which was once the iTunes of file-sharing software, is officially dead.

Parent company the Lime Group received a permanent injunction (PDF here) this afternoon from U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood ordering it to stop distributing and supporting LimeWire, and the company complied. The injunction is the latest step in a copyright infringement lawsuit filed by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) way back in 2006. Last May, the RIAA was granted summary judgment on almost all counts, and later in the summer it filed for a permanent injunction. That injunction came down today.

Nooooo!!!!! Now I'm going to have to pay for my music... 🙁

Just google free MP3s

I hated Limewire anyways. Always got viruses.

Get 'em while they still exist. If they've got the legal clout to take down the biggest player out there, they'll be going after all the smaller ones like rabid dogs.

This is a huge hit for the file sharing industry. What's the next thing, shut down bittorrent trackers  ? These greedy record labels should find something better to do with their time.

This is terrible. They can shut down all the sites and fight file sharing all they want but it will never die. This is the 21st century and file sharing is the way of life lol

I always favored and recommended limewire too. Like other people said tho their is always more then one way to share music. This is more of a nuisance to us then a solution for them.

QFT.
Notice how NOT ONE of the record companies were indie? Another reason to sign with independent record companies. I have boycotted Sony and WMG. They do nothing for the artist; all they want is money.

Isnt everything about money?? Going after file sharing in general is just a sad money driven attempt in disguise :/

Good.

If you can't afford to buy music, don't buy an MP3 player. Stream music online. It's free and legal!

Listen to the radio...

Guys, while we allow this type of discussion, please refrain from posting how to obtain illegal MP3s. 😉

Wow this sucks, not the service itself but that a legal organization can be shut down just because the RIAA feels that way. Not a surprise really, but still concerning.

And really, is anyone still using p2p clients for their downloading needs? I haven't used one in like 4 years lol

Because it's such a secret? I can't find out how to get MP3's anyway 😕

Plus MP3's suck in general. Good for iPods and such, but the bitrate maxes out at 320. If you want decent quality music, you'd buy the CD anyway.

There are cases in which you can find MP3s and FLACs online, but the original recording is hard to find, or impossible to find.
Take for example the Neidermeyer's Mind Demo Tape:
Only a few thousand are known to be in existence, and the few copies that exist sell for insane amounts of money. Would you say that because I can't afford it, I shouldn't listen to it?

Because every band puts up streaming music online?

Radio is a joke. If I hear another Avenged Sevenfold song on a "pure metal" station I might barf. Seriously, when was the last time you heard Amon Amarth, Winds of Plague or The Devin Townsend Project on the radio? The only thing radio stations play is mainstream shit.

And just for the sake of doing so, here's a link to the download of Balkandji's song: Diavolska shterka. http://abmp3.com/download/4608014-diavo ... terka.html
Fear not, it is licensed under Creative Commons: proof

Also, if you guys read their press release, it states there is no way to officially shut down limewire servers because well there isn't any 'servers' thats the beautifully form of P2P peering & tracking, even if Limewire removes the download from the face of the earth, if you still have it on your computer. You can still use it to download just as you were.

I wonder will Limewire become a paid to download site like Napster.

This is unfortunate since some people might use Limewire to share non-copyrighted music of independent and unsigned bands.

What's Limewire? 😛

There are plenty of places to continue your free music reign on if you know where to look. I personally pay for music I like to support artists that I like to see succeed.

That's why bands have websites.

We also have these things called blank CDs. Ever heard of them?
