When I was on ProBoards I saw so many forums using "Link backs" - are they still a thing nowadays? Has anyone else benefited from link backs before?
For those who don't know what link backs are, Forum A would post their link in Forum B's link back board and then Forum B would post their link in Forum A's board, so it's basically an exchange of advertising. 😛 It was a popular thing back when I was using ProBoards, but now that I am out of that area, I was wondering if anyone still uses the link back board to promote their forum?
Forumotion and Forum Promotion are linking to each other. On here, it is the form of a text link next to the style creator, and on Forumotion, it is in the forum of an affiliate link.
I know I would do it, if I could get a decent plan with someone else that would do the same.
The way you are saying it seems pretty much only existent on ProBoard forums. I have seen it there on many PB forums but not much elsewhere. I think they are still common among PB RPG forums.
I see this actively done on zIF and other boards that have MANY Roleplay forums. Roleplay forums definitely make a good use of this and I think it's great it keeps multiple forums connected.
They are way less effective than they used to be. Almost useless for SEO purposes unless your link is surrounded by thousands of lines of content relevant to your websites niche.
I would say banner and text ads on other relevant forums are good to drive traffic to your website. They help much to build your forum popularity and signups.
I didn't know that those actually work and are worth it. I've never clicked on one, especially when they jumbled up lots of mini-banners from a lot of different sites in a corner.
I don't see this too often anymore. I guess if I could, I could do a linkback with ProphpBB as that's the host we're on, but aside from that, I don't know how affective this would be to be honest with you.
