If you have some good established backlinks from decent sites that are ranked well and have some fantastic trust that the search engines love you will get quite a bit back and improve your rankings and possible conversions.

Link exchanges are no more considered important as Google considers them as link trades between websites.

Most of the old SEO techniques are outdated and not in use. Link exchanges was worked best previously now it is considered as a SPAM.
