Instant post redirect
info.png
Information:
Redirects instantly after posting a message instead of using meta redirection.
So basically, after you hit that submit button, you won't see that message "Your post has successfully submitted, click here to see your post blabla". Well it might be only useful when you have cash mod installed, then users can see how much cash they have earned.

Sortables CAPTCHA Plugin
info.png
Information:
This CAPTCHA plugin adds two columns, you can add options to each column. All the options will be displayed into one column, then the user has to sort the options from one to the other column, by dragging them with the mouse. If the options are dragged to the correct columns the CAPTCHA is solved.
And the best thing is that it doesn't require any installation. All you need is to configure it via ACP!
It is VERY effective and it WILL keep bots away from your board. Definitely recommended!

Information:
That MOD ensures to add an attribute, generally called a tag or a prefix, like [Solved], to topics titles.
It is highly customizable. I have used it and it is quite nice MOD to give your phpBB board that extra touch.

It is very useful for those who don't know how to code. You can add new ads via ACP without having to edit templates. Really convenient. 🙂 But I would not recommend to use any ads on freshly opened forums.

Forum cash/points system (Ultimate points)
info.png
Information:
Ultimate Points is an addition to your phpBB3 forum, where people can gain points and also are able to spend points, of course. This can be done in internal functions like the Bank, Lottery or Robbery Module. Also some external modifications already support the UPS.
Another very popular mod. This mod can be used on almost every forum genre.
Tip! Use it to run posting competitions! (Like I did 😉)
It is really customizable, you can modify each forum to give different amounts of points. (Another tip: make forum game sections give less or no points at all)

More useful MODs & useful links
  • Genders mod
  • http://www.phpbb-seo.com - everything to help you to SEO your phpBB board + SEO mod downloads and support
  • Image gallery mod
  • User blog mod
  • mChat mod - I would not recommend this for new boards.
  • phpBB Statistics - really nice mod. You can keep your eye on the most popular topics, most popular smiles, BBcodes, and so much more! Definitely a must-have!
  • Categorize Announcements and Stickies - also my favorite and recommended.
  • Spoiler BBcode - quite popular these days.
  • Topic text on mouse-over - recommended! I have used since forever and I love this mod.
  • Ajax Quick edit - recommended!!!
  • User reminder mod - if you have this mod installed, your forum members will receive e-mails if they become unactive. Can be configured it in many ways, definitely a recommended mod. Can help to revive old forums and bring back old forum members.
  • Mood swings mod - really popular mod.
  • Separate login and user names - great mod to improve your board's security.
  • Static pages mod - if you don't know how to code, then this mod is just for you. You can add new static pages via ACP. You can use BBcodes, no HTML language skills needed!
  • AutoMod - install new MODs automatically. But be careful with this. It CAN ruin your forum, but AutoMod can be very handy if you know how to use it.
  • Simple profile comments - another pretty popular mod. It's like a little guestbook you can put on profile pages, you can see it in action at ForumPromotion.net (click on my username and you can see it)
  • MCP info on index - this mod is not really popular, but I think it is a great mod. It will add a notification box on index when there are new PM reports, new post reports. So moderators can see those reports quickly and ban those bad people 😉.
  • Avatar on index and viewforum - I wish it was default in phpBB. It looks really neat and definitely recommended. You can see it in action in my forum if you like.
  • Welcome on index - adds this little box with a welcome message and user's avatar. I am currently using it but I modified it a lot. You can see it if you log in to my forum if you like.

Thanks. Well, I didn't really count hours when I made this list. Maybe 3-4 hours. I remember I started it in early morning and finished near the afternoon. (Thread posting time is near 10:00 but that's because I accidentally clicked Submit button, lol. I wanted to Preview...)
And I keep adding new links if I find something useful.
This list is based on several threads I found around in different admin forums and also on my own experience.

Advanced BBCode Box for me. I have used it since I moved to phpBB at the end of last year. It has a built-in image resizer so I no longer use REIMG which is a great mod. I'm also using the author's Quick Reply since adding the ABBCodeB only takes 1 edit. I'm still waiting for a Quick Edit. The 2 in the system are not compatible with the ABBCode Box but the author seems to be working on a new JQuery one that he says would work and will will behave the same way as the Ajax one you posted (both are from the same author).

Hello, thanks for your suggestion.
You see, most of those custom BBcodes can be added manually and for me, it looks "just too much". There is no need for so many BBcodes, I think it looks bad only.
But that's just my opinion. 🙂 I'll add it to the useful list.

Great list! I've got quite a few of those on my phpbb forum 😀<br /><br />-- August 23rd, 2011, 11:05 pm --<br /><br />Great list! I've got quite a few of those on my phpbb forum 😀

I appreciate you sharing this, Zaborg. Do you know how to get those mods on a Freeforums forum? :O

Well... These are phpBB3 MODs. So you need phpBB3 platform installed.

Thanks for the list. I might have to use some of these on my new forum especially the sortables mod.

I'm going to sticky this. I think it could be very helpful to many people who run phpBB3. 🙂
