One of my biggest pet peeves are locked posts. I don't like to lock old posts as you never know when someone will come through and want to answer it. That's my policy as an admin. The only posts I lock are ones that are resolved, such as technical issues. If someone is trolling, I don't lock the post, but I will delete it as I don't want that on my forum anyway.
As a forum member, I would rather not see very old posts get locked as usually the scenario goes like this.
So let's say that I find an interesting looking post title and click through, I read over the original post and all the responses and think about what I would like to say in response and then get to the end to find that it's been locked. Just seems like a waste of time, especially if it was a very good post (but just so happened to be an old post) and maybe I wanted to contribute something.
I can see why some really long posts are locked as there's no real need to keep adding responses after a question has been answered. But, then again, some posts get locked just because they are old and this is just the admin's way to discourage necroposting.
I just don't understand why new posts are considered better than older, seasoned posts that have multiple pages of responses.
Though I understand the value of new content (as in new discussions) being added daily, there is something comforting about a very old post that keeps getting responses from members.
