I've had my current laptop for about 4 years now, and it's been through... some traumatic experiences. It still plays most of what I want it too, but I can tell it's starting to wear out.

So, I am not actively shopping, but I am in the market, and looking at some appealing specs.

Currently looking at: http://promotions.newegg.com/Samsung/12-2689/index.html

Main point of this thread: Does anyone know of any better/cheaper laptops than this? I want full performance, but for as cheap as I can get it.

HDD isn't as important, as long as it's more than 350GB. I do want the best Processor and a lot of RAM. At least 8-16GB of RAM.

Honestly, you don't NEED more than 8GB of RAM. Depends on what you do with the computer. Personally I have 8GB of RAM.

@iPhonefreak: No preference, just not too small.

@ZINC: Thanks!

@Madox: I know, just planning for the future. 😉 I like making them last, so the better I get it to start off with, the longer I can go before I have to upgrade.

Keep in mind, the OS X runs a lot more efficiently then Windows, so you will use less RAM, and it will run better because the software is designed for the computer.

If you check out CNET.com the Samsung Gamer laptop is rated one of the best there, I don't think you could do much better.

Avoid buying used laptops like the HP DV series, Toshiba satellites too. these have a lot of overheating issues and video chip failures. If your looking for something new and reliable get a mid grade Lenovo. or a Sony Vaio.

just my opinion.

if u want performance for cheap.get a desktop. Also a desktop will last longer so its cheaper in the long run.

-- 05 Oct 2012, 00:17 --

also irs easyer to repair/upgrade a desktop compared to a laptop (trust me ive been there 😛 ) take a look at them.....

I got a second hand Dell Latitude D820 for only $200

Processor type Intel® Core™ Duo processor

Graphics: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 120 graphics solution with 512MB TurboCache

3-year Economy Plan warranty(if brand new)

Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN (802.11b/g 54Mbps) Mini Card (Broadcom)
Bluetooth radio (Toshiba stack)
6-Cell/56 WHr Primary Battery

Only 2 minor issues it orginaly game with XP & 60GB hard disk @ 7200RPM

But the good news is you can clone your current hard drive in the current pc or fresh install windows 7, If your current hard drive is a laptop one then it might fit in the d820 laptop.

Depends if your looking for a brand new/second desktop or laptop??

Im upgraded myne to 500GB of space 😉

Being second hand it still runs brand new!
