Does anyone know of any reliable managed VPS hosts that won't break the bank and don't cost a kidney each year?

Revillution has seemingly outgrown shared hosting so i'm looking for a reliable VPS just to see what's out there.

I pay $75.00/yr w/ Hawkhost, that has jumped up to around $86-$90/yr now, so i'm looking to move. I have had Cedric convert my DB over to ForumSpark and that is seemingly what will happen going forward if I can't find a good deal on a VPS, which as of right now, doesn't seem to be the case.

Only thing that kills me is i'll be losing my streams library and media gallery moving over to FS.

The theme i can have recreated, but yeah....just figured i'd take a shot in the dark before fully comitting to FS.

Have you looked at Digital Ocean or OVHcloud yet? They have pretty decent prices, I've used both but preferred OVHcloud since they offered better specs at a cheaper price than the droplet I was using on Digital Ocean.

I've used digitalocean for my PSO server for awhile, that too got too expensive hence why it's no longer online 😛

For what I'd need, i'm still paying way more than I can afford and the cheaper options aren't much better than staying on Hawk, unfortunately.

Generally quality managed services on a VPS are going to cost you between $25-$100 USD a month with the average around $50. Then you have to add the VPS cost on top of that.
So you would be paying (at the lowest price) a years worth of Hawkhost hosting you have (which I am going to assume is shared hosting as their 4GB VPS instances run around $20 a month just for the VPS) just for 3 months of the lowest cost managed VPS service.

Yeah, sounds about right. It's just way out of my budget right now.

Can't you stick with shared but look at better shared options?

I have seen places that offer more spaces, more hardware/ram on shared 🙂 I pay $15.85 a month for myself, and get one year's worth at $190 🙂

I see that HostHawk offers "Turbo" At $16 right now rather then $21

A decent quality VPS is going to easily run you around $120 a year.
An alternative to help reduce cost by getting around a managed system is to use CentMin Mod and either Alma Linux (what I use) or Rocky Linux as the base OS. The downfall is that you do need at least some base level understanding of Linux and CLI (command line interface) interactivity. You also do not get a mail server set up with it so you have to use an outside resource for transactional email. I resolved that by using AWS on my primary site and the rest of them I have my own MTA server.
The other issue is that if you ever have OS level problems odds are you won't be able to resolve them and will have to rely on an outside provider so you would need cash set aside for that.

There are providers that have shared hosting plans that can easily support larger sites.... but they do cost more also. It's a vicious battle between meeting needs and being able to support those needs. I was able to grab a Black Friday server from OVH (Kimsufi) for a little more a month than I was paying for my VPS I had. But I've also been playing with Linux since Slackware released in 1993 (the oldest Linux OS distro still around) so I am comfortable with it.

I'm on their "Professional" plan at the moment and they told me any 'deals' they have right now are for new customers only, so if I was to switch plans, i'd have to pay full price, not the discounted price shown which IMHO is a bit scummy.
