Some things need to be known like WHMCS (system for customers paying and communicating with your company) knowledge or availability, what kind of forum software - as I'm guessing it would need to be installed on your hosting. Using free forum services wouldn't be on your hosting, but that's a possibility. Finally, what theme would be used for the homepage and forum?

What is it that you need help with?

If your budget is 100 and under than banner ads could be useful. If more, high-quality PPC would be an option. Boosting on social media might work in both instances. Also, to really make it professional, you need an ad and point system - both of which are probably paid mods of around 40 USD each.

The important point is that you do a lottle bit of reaearch, use a free software and install on your computer as a local host, play with it and learn your moves. After that, come with a long term plan about the forum, what features it would need, what mods would be required and how much it would cost. Starting a paid forum without any planning would be a disaster.

Just my two cents.

I don't see any problem with just jumping in.

Some correction, XF 2 actually has an in-built ad mod with it, unlike with XF 1. However, though, a point mod would still be needed - if you want points.
