Lying on a Resume

I've never had the need or the desire to lie on an application or resume.
 
Your resume may very well determine what type of work you end up doing, so I would recommend being honest. Otherwise, you may end up with a job you can't really do, when you could have otherwise been given a more appropriate one. That'll just make you look bad and be less happy.
 
I keep the real me on my resume. I want people to know I have the experience I have and not some random experience as I will be expected to work harder in a job I know barely anything about.
 
I don't usually lie on my resume, it'll just come back to bite you and then you'd be screwed, then you'll probably lie again saying "Oh no I didn't get fired from this job" or something of that sort. xD
 
There is no point in lying. You can kind of embellish the truth a little, but remember you have to live up to those expectations. So for example, if you went to a community college you can't say that you graduated with a doctorate in something from Harvard. Gotta be at least close to the truth. 😛

I've never lied personally. 🙂
 
It could come back to haunt you. Note, in another scenario, some people's resumes are so bad they have to lie to get any job, but then again they're reaping more bad karma.

I've lied on my resume before. However, it was not to impress, as I was dumbing down the resume xD Example, instead of saying the owner or founder of a company, could say I was a manager. Etc

Do these things for various reasons.

Then what happens when there boss finds out? Then the record going to be bad for the next job
 
You should never lie on your resume as you will get found out and lose your job and if you live in the UK and lose your job you get no benefits for 6 months
 
I did once yes, I for many years ran heavy equipment for a living (excavator). Then i made a HUGE mistake of getting in my car after having a few drinks after work, and lost my Drivers Licence, and because of that my job. I didnt get in a wreck or hurt anyone thank god.

Anyway i needed to get a job, so i did completely lie on my resume to get a job as a cook in a local pub stating i had cooked for several years proffesionally when in fact i hadnt cooked anywhere other then in my home. I did get the job, and i am still a cook, as it turns out i love cooking lol. So i guess it worked out quite well for me.

I dont condone lying on a resume, and it could potentially come back to haunt you later on, i was just lucky
 
Lying is a very, very bad idea. I do interviews for a paper plant, and some people just put downright humorous stuff on their resume's/applications. I had one person literally put that they used to be the CEO of the company that they were applying to. Needless to say - doing something REALLY stupid like that is an awful idea, and if you even get invited to an interview, it's because people just want to laugh at you. However, you should do everything possible to make yourself look as good as possible on an application. You're selling yourself, and you want to sell yourself at your highest point.
 
I dont find a problem with lying in your resume as long as you have the ability and the material to cover it up. Just dont get caught 😛
 
If you can't live up to the resume you offer when looking for a job then you will be caught and fired along with being branded a liar which is what the next employer is going to find out when they look for references. Character is a precious thing and without it, you won't get anywhere in life. If a honest resume is not going to get the job you want then you need to work on you so you can provide a honest resume that will get you the job you want.

To get a job through lying on your resume will only ensure you take on a job you can't handle and steal it away from someone who can do it and has done the work to get it while you haven't.
 
I personally have not, but from a moral standpoint if you are willing to lie about something so simple you are not worth hiring. I personally prefer to separate honest individuals and dishonest ones. If your going to lie about something stupid then your not worth it to begin with I can't trust people like that. Honest people have a higher rate of sticking through things and doing what they are suppose to do over dishonest individuals.
 
I wouldn't, your work history and the true information about yourself should sell, then any employer can see what you can and cant do in terms of work.

A friend of mine had been in a similar situation and he made out that he could do a few things and when his boss asked him to complete a task that he said he could quite easily do, came round and hit him full force, in order for him to complete the task he had to learn over the night so that he could prove himself the next day to his boss.

He said if he didnt learn he would have been out of a job and sacked so he is very lucky so its wise to say, do not lie on any resume or application if you are looking to be in a successful job even if its to big yourself up.

9 times out of 10 some employer will honor that you don't no some stuff and they may train you up as long as you are honest 🙂
 
I personally would never lie on a resume. If you need to lie it's most likely because you can't fit the requirements in which case you aren't suited.
