I need some serious input from all of you out there on the pros and cons of having a MAC. I'm getting a new laptop soon and debating on trying them out. Please no one word posts and I'm looking for serious answers. Thanks.

Well, Apple just released their new line of Macs today. Mavericks (OS 10) was launched today, as well. They all have retina display, mavericks, and new processors. The battery life is phenomenal! It's also thin and light.

What's your budget? The MBA may be a better suit for you, or the MBP. Tell us a little bit...🙂

I'd recommend going with a laptop with Windows. (Preferably Windows 7 if you can manage it... But at this point you'll probably have to deal with Windows 8.)

1500$ is a high enough budget that you can get a decently powerful (Windows) laptop.

But if you're going macbook, 1200$ is pretty much the bottom of the barrel. (And you're only getting an Intel core i5, 4GB ram, 500GB HDD. Which, don't get me wrong, is still decent specifications... But just not really worth what you're paying. When you buy apple you are pretty much paying a premium for the logo. To have their stamp on the machine... Since it runs pretty much the same hardware as the Windows based laptops...)

Speaking of the Windows based laptops... You're well into the gaming range for that amount of money. (Intel Core i7, 8-12+GB of ram, 1-2TB of HDD, ~2GB video ram, etc...)

Even if you don't want to go with a gaming level one, there is a Windows based one that offers whatever specification you want for much less than a mac.

Actually, $1,399 will get him a 13" MBP with reins display, 2.6GHz with 3.1 turbo, 8GB of RAM and 128GB PCIe-based Flash Storage.

Macs last much longer, and Windows machines need More power due to them taking up more resources with just the OS.

I'm very satisfied with my macbook air, it's light and very fast with the ssd drive in it and I like the new screen sharing on mavericks.
Also my apple laptops tend to work longer than for example the acer or hp I had before.

I think Mac is worth it for its software like Final Cut Pro, Garage Band, and other Mac Software you plan on using. iMovie, iPhoto, Garage band and other free iLife software which comes with Macs also seems better than Windows free software like Windows Movie Maker, MS Paint, and Sound Recorder.

iWorks which is Apple's Office Suite is also now free with Mac purchases.

My Relatives older Macbook Pro laptops seem to still work pretty well when I see them using them for the past few years.

Also, now that Mac Operating Upgrades like OS X Mavericks are free for Macs bought in 2009, future Mac Upgrades for Operating Systems will most likely also be free like Mavericks unlike Windows which still require people to pay $100-199 for upgrades from Windows 7 to Windows 8. The upgrade costs for the Windows operating systems adds up to hundreds of dollars if you always upgrade to the latest version of Windows.

I have a MacPro, which is outside of your budget, but I love it! I had Windows 7 since it came out and the same for Vista, so I have been using Windows for some time now. My PC went out, and I was left needing a computer. So, I put out the money for this MacPro that I am using right now. It is a powerhouse, and it is so much better using Photoshop on than my PC. Overall, everything about it is so much more intuitive. From productivity to the overall running of the computer is better. Now, I am not a fanboy of either, I just prefer my Mac over my old PC.

If you want to take the step into having a Mac, I think you should. It is a great environment to use!

I would go to the Apple store and test them out, they are on display for customers to play around with their settings. I currently own a Macbook Pro and love it. Only thing I dislike about it is if you're interested in PC gaming, it limits the types of games you can play and affects the gameplay by some. Other than that, I'd say it's better than any other laptop, very nice features, very nice "Finder" layout and everything else is perfect.

I appreciate everyone who has responded to this thread. I'm gonna definitely try before I buy. As I am a PC Gamer I will have to take some things into account. All of your responses were very enlightening and definitely helped me out a bit. 🙂 THanks

If your budget is that high, get a Mac. The hardware will be weaker than a PC of the same price, but the software is definitely better. If you're a hardcore gamer get a Windows PC though.

Not true about the weak hardware.

You're kidding? So you're saying a 2000 dollar Mac has better specs than a 2000 dollar PC? Sorry bro, but you're sadly mistaken. ;D

Ok, you may have a point when you go up to the $3000 price tag (sort of). But for people who don't have $3000+ to spend on a computer (and with a Xeon CPU, it's basically a server that can play games), Macs are way overpriced. For the $2000 27 inch iMac, I could build a way more powerful PC and still have money left over for a high-res monitor.
