If you don't have a website, you can try earning money with websites like Neobux and Points2shop.
.YouTube is a very... frustrating place to deal with.
The thing is... YT really doesn't care.
They just let things happen as they happen with algorithms ruling the roost which can suspend you at the drop of a hat, usually due to some copyright troll uploading content they don't own to the Content ID system or due to the system's disregard for fair use.
A computer can not distinguish between infringing content and fair use.
Also, when a public scandal happens, as it does every now and then, they'll implement sweeping changes to the algorithm which will lead to countless videos being demonetised due to the algorithm thinking there's a problem with a video when there's not.
A lot of traffic is often something to bargain with. If you have a load of visitors, simply sell ads to a 3rd party that make you go beyond breaking even (like when getting store inventory) - or you can use the visitors as possible customers for products. Note, though, if using Adsense, the payout is often lower than what you get for buying traffic, so only cheaply gotten traffic would work (SEO or social media sharing that didn't require a lot of money, only time).
Anyway, another trick is simply boosting a site with traffic (even though at first it doesn't pay off much) until it's a hit. But be careful in case it might not work. Do research.
I think there was news before the end of 2017 that Adsense had slashed the revenue sharing for the ads by 50%. That means we are now earning just half of what we usually earn from Adsense. What's next with Adsense? They have imposed stricter measures in Youtube now with the minimum 1,000 subscribers that is like eradicating the small time video makers. They may do that with Adsense too.
That would be insane and not a good idea for them in so many ways since competitors such as Adhitz are making strong comebacks.
