Hey!
Many people say discord is taking over forums which I disagree with because discord is a chat app while a forum can be a real website, But would I making a discord for my gaming forum take traffic away from the site? or is it a great way for users to remember that the site exists?

I have a guilded server for my forum. It's similar to discord, but you can actually make money off of it and it has a TON of other features. It's also capable of having SEO built for it as well as being indexed on google. So it's also a valid backlink for your website.

That’s amazing I check it out 😀
I’m thinking about doing a minor niche change in to a technology forum that way I can cover more topics in one the content will definitely remain though.

For me, forums rule. Because Google index only forums.
Same here and they are threaded.

I think using Discord or Guilded for quick chats while using your forum to keep the serious discussions on?

I have been playing around with Guilded too for an upcoming project.

I have seen a lot of forums with 2 or 3 connected members, a few recent messages and dozens and dozens of members on discord...
In my opinion this is detrimental to the activity of the forum.

I have a discord server that is also used for more than just one resource. However, it's dead and not many members on it. As soon people join they leave again. They rather are on another server or their own. Plus you do not want discord killing traffic over your forum anyway.

That's true, Decided to focus more towards technology as a whole on my site instead of just gaming, Hopefully, that helps and I decided not to go with discord now.

I have mChat built into my forum; it's a chat extension to phpBB. You'll find it at the bottom of the index page as a substitute for "microblogging" applications which I'd integrated earlier. It gets the occasional message, which is what it's basically there for.

Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of experience with Discord.

I use to use it a lot because I had friends that would use it but recently not much.

I am trying it out, but really struggling to find a solid layout that I like. Can't really figure out if I want it to be a "support" platform to my site or a whole community on its own.... or something in the middle.

I personally don’t think apps like that will replace forums all together maybe the forumotion type ones but actual website ones like Xenforo,etc.. are real websites.

Even FP discord is dead, But the forum is alive

Forums will always be superior, I changed my site more towards tech, Most gamers are also tech nerds and I will also be covering everything gaming at the same time.

Discord (and guilded) both have a threads feature

idk about guilded but with discord it feels more like a private chat thread I personally prefer forums but each to their own.

Guilded has Threads that are like that, BUT they also have legit forums.

That’s amazing
Looks better then discord, I don’t think guilded would kill forums though if anything they’re keeping the forum alive. 😀
Agreed, there's also Subs that works similar to patreon. Patreon takes 5% - 12.5% but guilded only takes 2.5% so I personally think it's easier to get money from guilded than it is actually having a legit forum, especially because there's no domain or hosting fees. Making it easier to open up a forum with no costs and being easier to make money with no costs 🙂

I just took a look and don’t mind it, it’s a lot better then discord and will hopefully overtake discord.
