I got A Adobe Creative suite 6 collection From my school. Im wondering What Program Is best for making web Graphics; Photoshop, Illustrator Or Fireworks?.
Depends on what you need to make. I only used Photoshop when I had a Windows machine. I think Illustrator and Fireworks are for creating Vectors. I'm sure they have their own uses, I don't know what they do.
I use GIMP now since I'm on Ubuntu, since Adobe doesn't support us Linuxians
Well..not sure..but I think they're images that you can resize as much as you want and they'll maintain the same look (e.g. no stretching)
EDIT:
Vector graphics is the use of geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygon(s), which are all based on mathematical expressions, to represent images in computer graphics. "Vector", in this context, implies more than a straight line.
Vector graphics are based on vectors (also called paths, or strokes) which lead through locations called control points. Each of these points has a definite position on the x and y axes of the work plan. Each point, as well, is a variety of database, including the location of the point in the work space and the direction of the vector (which is what defines the direction of the track). Each track can be assigned a color, a shape, a thickness and also a fill. This does not affect the size of the files in a substantial way because all information resides in the structure; it describes how to draw the vector.
And I guess because of the way it's made (geometry), it is resizable as much as you want.
ANOTHER EDIT:
Printing
Vector art is ideal for printing. Since the art is made from a series of mathematical curves, it will print very crisply even when resized. For instance, one can print a vector logo on a small sheet of copy paper, and then enlarge the same vector logo to billboard size and keep the same crisp quality. A low-resolution raster graphic would blur or pixelate excessively if it were enlarged from business card size to billboard size. (The precise resolution of a raster graphic necessary for high-quality results depends on the viewing distance; e.g., a billboard may still appear to be of high quality even at low resolution if the viewing distance is large enough.)
Ending hypothesis for me is that vectors are better for printing and regular images are better for the web -- but that's just me. If an expert has more advice, please enlighten me 🙂
I have the whole CS6 as well offered to me by College. It's an expensive program if you're not in school or do not find it cheap anywhere. I prefer Photoshop over Illustrator or Fireworks.
I personally use photoshop for anything I'm doing web-graphic wise. If it's a vector, I would go with illustrator. Fireworks is actually being discontinued, as its functions are being more and more paralleled in the other creative suite products.
OK so I have done freelance for about 2-3 years now and I am currently working on my biggest and most profitable job yet. (Working for a TV company) I have the CS5.5 Suit. and here are a few things you need to know.
1) Photoshop uses pixels and is ideal for web products. I use it to design website's.
2) Illustrator uses vectors making it perfect for Printed items and logos. I also use it to design parts of websites.
3) Dreamweaver Uses Scripting languages such as HTML CSS JavaScript ect.. I use this to code the site.
what i am trying to say is to get the best results use multiple programs and make use of the different options available. Fireworks is no longer being produced after CS6 and the program is just like Photoshop but with less options.
The best combination will be photoshop and illustrator ! Can use illustrator to create vector then if the design need any effects you can directly drag it into photoshop and add it in.
Most people use Adobe Photoshop. Although i'm not sure which program is the best, Adobe Photoshop is pretty good, you'll just have to see some tutorials from youtube and you can start making graphics.
