Making Your Forum Posts Count Using Social Media
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have my doubts about the value of forum backlinks. I have several thousand, and while I get decent rankings on my home page, I can't see that my page on copywriting has any power. It has no toolbar PR and my rank in Google on that term is not in the top 200.
No worries, because I am not here for the links -- they are merely icing on the cake.
But I do think there are ways to enhance my links, or at least the value of my presence, in the forum. When I made a couple of posts I liked recently I decided to treat them like I do with blog post or articles. I started by Stumbling it. (Digging would work, too, or any bookmarking site that also allows you to share it on Twitter seamlessly.)
I wrote a review on SU and then I shared it. My Twitter updates my Facebook, so it was pretty quick and easy.
It did drive traffic to the page (I can see that in my SU favorites page) and while I can't tell you that it got me business, it did give me more exposure to my circle and potentially improved my reputation. At least my followers now know I participate in this forum. It might also, in the long run, result in a little toolbar PR action for the thread, perhaps enhancing the value of my sig links.
You don't have to start a thread to make this work for you -- though that's a good idea. But even if you just have a post in a thread that you think presents an idea particularly well, you could bookmark and share that. It could enhance your presence here.
And it's a great way to give back to the forum because it give V7n a little exposure. And this place deserves it! Plus anything you do to help the forum can help you, too.
