Making your own skins

For those of you that own a forum;

Do you make your own skins, or do you have someone else do it?

I use to have my brother make them for me, but until recently, I've gotten into it.

I personally feel that the main administrator should be the one making the skins. I'm a bit old fashioned for being 18. I think the main administrator should be the one doing the work, whilst having mods 'help'.

I got mine from other sites I'm on, having your own theme is a brilliant idea because then it'll be original and no other forums will ever use it. I have given this a thought but making themes are not as easy as it seemed to be..I'm struggling at coding 🙁

I just use the premade skins that the forum already has; we're on a free host so there isn't a whole lot I can do. I could edit one of the skins, but I do not know CSS so I can't do much.

Any site should have their own theme or even a customization of a theme found on the net. I've edited the theme I found for my website. 🙂

I always 'do' them. With whatever knowledge and tools I have at hand.

For my current location, I had to rush with some hot-skin suggestion in order to have it ready so we could move ASAP, however, right now is not really recognizable, except for some buttons.

But I always feel way more tranquil if I know I was the one that created the buttons and stuff. I don't like the idea of people finding other board alike mine or worse , that this misleads into believing one of us is stealing.

I try to give them my personal touch. Even if it makes them more humble looking. XD

All of Rapture's skins besides the first were made by Xarina. 😀

I don't know anything about designing and coding so I am useless in that department.

I don't make my own skin because I only know basic codes and I am not good at graphics but I do edit pre-made skins to match the topic of my forum.

That was one of the things I liked about IPB Free or Zetaboards. If you didn't know html or CSS, they had a built-in drop down box where you could select the color you wanted your theme to be. Still mad about my one theme being messed up even though this was a year ago, ha ha...
