How do you feel about members who aim to increase their post counts?

Even if they are producing quality content, will you allow them to freely increase as they wish?

I ask because I've seen some communities that are strict about how much you can post a day.

I haven't had this problem. I have no problem members posting at all. I would love for my forum to be more active. Not just in the Games section but in other areas where we are having a back & forth discussion.
I haven't come across forums I'm a member of that are strict about the quantity of posts. I wonder what type of forums do that & why.

Want members to keep on posting, Even if it's just one or two or more, you want them to post and become as active as you can. With their goals set or not that's a good thing still 🙂 and if you have that person on your forum, then encourage that member and others. As long as it's not bad crap spam content.

But in most cases, the big problem is getting members to damn post in the first place or at least be active. Strict forums tends to be far more active than those that are not 😱

How do I get these members to join my sites? LOL

I don't have limits and it would be nice to get a lot of quality posts because then good conversation can continue!

I mean, I'd think getting people to contribute content and discussions to your forum is the main goal of any community. The ultimate goal of a forum should be the posting to be an end in itself.

The problem are those spamming a bunch of bad content: short one-word posts that don't contribute anything, double posting when they could have limited themselves to a single post etc., especially if their goal is something else than the discussions (e.g. forum currency, a new rank etc.). The problem is the posting being a means towards some other goal that has nothing to do with the welfare of the community.

I don't think post count really matters that much. It depends what your goal is. Are you after a high post count in your stats or just quiality discussion? For me personally it's just about having some activity in the community.

If you try to hard it just looks desperate.

I don't put much faith in individual metrics like post counts, so as long as members contribute good content, go for it! They could post 100,000 times a day if it's good content, I'd welcome it!

I myself welcome it and I even encourage it. I try to make sure people know that as long as they are posting quality content or content that is on topic, I'm okay with them posting 100-times a day if they wish.

I've been banned from a few forums for first offense of posting too much and I really only posted like 20 times. That heavily discourages me from being active for sure 🙂

Great responses in here!!

Nothing wrong with posting 20 times a day or even more, Unless it's crap spam. I mean, Look at myself. I have over 30K content under my belt here on FP and each day I make well over 20 posts content or maybe on a good day I make well over 30 content. Don't ask me why I make so much content 😛 .

SOme say I crap spam anyway.

That's crazy! Who cares if you're posting a lot? As long as you're not spamming surely it's fine to just post away!?

I'd steer clear of those rubbish forums then for sure!

I totally agree.

You know it is like here for example. I do have signature links for sure but it's allowed. But I make sure everything I post is quality and engaging. And I feel that I am accomplishing that here.

And that is how I've always posted. I take a sort of pride for myself for being that kind of forumer 🙂

I can't see how that is wrong!

I also think that forums that have strict rules for posting often don't last long either. If you try and stifle the creativity of members they won't bother coming back to communicate will they?

I won't. And that's also a reason why I make a lot of my forums. I see an unfriendly community in a niche that matters to me, so I get involved in operating a community in that niche shortly after haha.

I don't have any limits and thresholds on how much one can post.

I agree with the above sentiments however - if they're posting quality content as well, then it's not a problem. If the word games (for example) are the only things they're posting and is the majority of a forum's content then it just become people "talking at people" not to one another and contributing. To me that's not a community. I personally don't like message boards where a majority are only worried about their wonderful new post count or total threads/posts if they're the owner.

I'll take an actual community over thae last statement above, any day.

I have no issue with any member trying to increase their post count as long as they don’t actively spam the forum (ex; one word answers or post junk replies to the actual thread in hand).

trying to keep people posting is hard nowadays XD

Not sure if Xenforo has this(havent found it in usergroup permissions, still new to it though hah) but i know IPB you can set a post limit or time limit for different usergroups for posts, comments etc so i used to use that when i was on IPB(also had post requirement length)
