If you trashed or deleted a post because it violated a site rule, and then the next day a different member besides the one that posted it decides to quote that post using quotation marks, what would you do? Do you trash/delete that one too? Do you call it out publicly? Message that member?

How does a member quote a deleted post?

They must have copied it onto their computer before it got trashed and then used quotation marks instead of the system to "quote" the post.

How does a member quote a deleted post?
It's not that uncommon under the following circumstances; someone makes a provocative post to which another member takes exception and quote/replies. The original post then gets deleted by a staff member at a later time leaving the quote to a deleted post.

I try to go through and clear out the quoted posts when I trash the offending ones.

If someone quoted a post that was deleted, I would delete the quoted post as well. I usually just move threads to the trash section of my forum rather than deleting them unless they're spam most of the time though.

It's not too often I see a quoted post, and the post that the quote was taken from has been deleted but if I do see it, I tend to delete the quoted post as well.

I would remove that post and send the member a PM explaining why.

I would ask them to refrain from creating another post and warn them it could result in being banned.

The member gets a warning and then, if they keep on pulling such stunts, will be removed from the community. There's a reason we delete bad posts.

Depends on the context. If a member is banned for an unrelated offense, and the deleted post wasn't the reason for the ban, then I might allow it on the assumption that the quoted post is appropriate and staying on topic. However if a post in question is part of why they were banned, I would remove it and have a word with the other person kindly saying that we banned x member for a reason

I at one time (a few years ago) trashed a spam topic and a moderator moved it back and wanted to discuss it further. That was new.

If you have already deleted a post, how can a member quote that post?

I have not seen it myself, members quoting from deleted posts. More like they wrote that down the line that post that they wrote too gets deleted.

I suppose it depends on the situation, but I would probably delete the new post as well. If they're responding to a post that no longer exists, I'd say you could argue it's off topic.
