Deleted member 49125

Another topic idea taken from Open a forum.
What do you think of those who join your forum, maybe make a post or two, delete their account then join again at another time? Wash, rinse, repeat.
I ended up having to ban a few of those. While people may change their minds, after a few times of joining, deleting, that’s enough now. Once, twice, no biggie, but anymore than that & it feels like they are playing a game.

I don't allow users to delete their accounts, so it hasn't happened to me. If someone were to join with a new account, I'd simply merge it into their previous one because I don't allow multiple accounts.

Users can't remove/delete their accounts anyway on my end as they can't and they have no powers other than asking permission from the staff members to have it removed with high detailed reasons as to why. They end up having to keep it or leave and not come back.

When the new EU privacy policy law came into place that we all have to obey and make changes I remember that I had two members that year that wanted their accounts removed and I ask them why and one of them had a good answer the other was not a good answer. I ended up saying that we have site rules that state that your account can't be removed. Anyway, what I did was I did remove the account but the posts/content did not got removed.

If I delete my account on someone's forum, I'm leaving for good and not coming back. I normally have a good reason for leaving and not coming back.

I won't be deleting my account only to return sometime in the future. Especially multiple times.

It's something I used to find really irritating but it's been far less of an issue since GDPR because once an account has been stripped of PII and anonymized there's actually no way back for the member.

I do not know why some members join, delete accounts and join again. I don't do that. If I don't like the forum I just abandon it. I don't delete my account.

Members don't delete accounts on my forums. I don't delete accounts, unless they are spammers or zero post accounts (and keep like this for months). I'm not deleting new accounts, but, if in 6 months a member hasn't posted once at least, the account is just occupying database space for nothing.

Not on a forum but have seen Discord admins and mods ban people for doing this. Instead of deleting it's them leaving, rejoining, then leaving.

lol maybe they couldn't make up their mind on whether or not they wanted to make it a long term commitment. 😂

I don't have the option to delete an account turned on purely for this reason but it's also to keep tabs on people who may come onto the forum to cause some kind of trouble and then delete their account right after. I always state that once you have made an account on the forum it is permanent and can not be deleted so that people are aware of that before they register. I just feel if you give everyone the option to delete their account when they wish, you will run into so many problems.
