Is this ever a problem on your forum, where one person will just post constantly? I don't see it as a real issue so long as they are contributing good content. Most people stick around and contribute to a forum for their own reasons. Some want to build a good reputation in a niche. Others are just lonely and want some place familiar to hang out. And, at least they have some place to go. What are your thoughts on this situation?

Yes and no - I appreciate all posts really, but I do have one member who blatantly post whores to keep her post count high. Like one time, I opened a thread she'd made that had 17 replies, and every single one was herself, just adding more to the thread. That kind of thing is just pointless.

For me, it's simple; the more people post the better, since I'd rather have someone who posts 'too much' than 'too little'.

For myself, if they were posting things that were pretty much spam (like making a dozen replies that were only one word or replying to themselves over and over...) then I'd have an issue.

But if they're posting quickly otherwise? I'd have no problem. If anything someone who posts a lot can really help invigorate a community. That sort of energy and enthusiasm can really help on communities where members have kind of slowed down. (Especially ones that have been together a while and talked with each other a lot. So they know basically what the others might say.)

I would live it if individuals post a lot but of course quality over quantity....I think it would be rather annoying if someone made 17 posts by one person...but if they were simply responding others' remark then I wouldn't see that as a problem.

Depends on the poster.

If they're posting very low-quality posts or general spam posts everywhere, then most certainly not.

However, if they are genuine contributor to the forum, and their posts are relatively decent, then what's not to love? Those are the kind of individuals we strive to attract as board owners, after all.

Like all the above, it all depends on the content...As long as it's not spam.

As long as the posts are on topic I don't have a problem with how much someone posts. If they want to be active and participate constantly in the community, they are free to do so. I'm sure many administrators, especially on newer forums, appreciate these kind of people.

A member can never post too much

This. They always say that every little bit helps, and this is also true in terms of posting. As long as you make decent quality posts, I could care less how much you post on my site. If a person makes a lot of posts, especially good quality ones, then that shows me that they're enjoying their time on my forum and that they're willing to contribute in every way possible. So as long as it's not spam, I don't care how much any one person posts, because as I said, that only shows me that they're enjoying their time on my forum.

Depends to what extent of his/her posts are spam like if they actually post good content then great

Yes:
[*]Good content
[*]Contributions are in all sections
[*]Posts on Topic

NO!!!
[*]Spam Posts
[*]Posts those are directed only to one section
[*]Posts are made to break the rules
I think These two sides explain how i find posting too much.

I don't think that is valid. Someone might only specialise in that area or may only have interests in that area. I see no reason to put that in the same group as spam and rule-breaking posts.

Yes it is, if someone posts in off topic only in a role-playing forum, the his/her contributions don't count as good.

Not as much, but they certainly do still count, assuming they're not spammy. Perhaps that user enjoys the community itself, just not the roleplaying. No reason why they cannot simply stick to a certain section if it's what they enjoy. One should be grateful that user is even posting at all.

I know and agree, but this doesn't change the fact that some boards have more posts on off topic than the main section of the board's topic it self.

So if they didn't want to post in the main RPG section, you would rather that user leave the community seeing as you don't consider their contributions as good...?

On an IT forum, someone might only specialise in servers, and all their posts are in the servers forum. On a programming forum, they are Java experts and they only post in the Java section, why should they need to post in other forums which they have no expertise in?

Very rarely would someone join a random RPG forum just to post in the off-topic section, and be an active member. You are postulating an unlikely scenario of which you've now generalised it for all forums and genres, and this is completely invalid.

Thar's a serious accusation I'm not "postulating any scenario", I'm trying to say that some webmasters find posting in this way un-beneficial, why the heck do they disable post count in these section, let me take this forum for example, why are The FP hot seat, V.i.P lounge. the only places those don't count posts? to prevent member from contributing? because these forums aren't the good way to earn FP, you and the others stated that Vip place shouldn't give fp because it will encourage spam, and now you're saying the opposite in another away.
Your statement is too stereotypical, not everyone considers posting in off topic section good, as it doesn't fit the theme of the forum, as you can see some forums have off topic section do not count posts or give points because they know about it, and some don't care about, unfortunately the off-topic section of my forum has the most posts. why when requesting packages, some people (including me) state to stay away from off topic places, or forum games?

I can work on this with FTON, bloom is now a garbage username and it's not listed on my shop.
I'll sign up to your forum once i complete the request of JGreig, it won't last long. 😉
ok thanks sure, could you please put the posts mostly in tech area and on gadgets thanks.
This guy wanted me to focus on the main theme of his forum for example, but i didn't get so many notes, but still.
My point is not i do not allow others to contribute where they feel good to post in, my point is making so much posts in one section, especially the daily chat doesn't help, we all can say "hello", "my mood is good".

I thought I had a reply in this thread already, strange.

My take is that I do not think someone can post too much really. They can instead post content that isn't really bringing anything to the discussion but that, in my opinion, is a different issue which I will bring up separately. Posting a lot on my forum is respected and appreciated as long as it adds to discussion.

I had one member on my current forum who made lot's of posts.. it was nice to have someone posting so much... but the only problem is that they never really made any sense!
I'd get pm's from my friends on the forum complaining they have no idea what this person is saying. lol.
They vanished months ago, but I know they aren't gone from the net.
