Has anyone created a meme and gotten any good forum sign ups or extra visits from guests afterward? CH staff created some memes a few years ago and one is up to 4,000 views but no one ever said they joined the site because of the meme. Just wondering if it's worth pursuing again?
I think it would come down to having a good social network presence as well.
You could put the website forum name in the background of the image manually, or create a script that automatically puts your forum logo / URL on the bottom of each image. You can then load in hundreds to thousands of memes to automatically have branded memes or images. Then you can use a script to post 1-2 images or memes per day on your Facebook page.
You could also automatically share the meme in one of your forum sections or web pages to include a link to your site in the image description/caption. It might work, but you would need to try to get people sharing the images on their own pages. You don't want to be too intrusive with the branding, but if you keep your social page organized & related to your website, it could definitely work.
This is not something I have done, but I have definitely considered it!
