Merge accounts

Have you ever had members create new accounts? Do you merge accounts with their old accounts if you see a member with multiple accounts?

If a new member joins and already has an existing account, I send them a DM to ask which account they’d like to use. I then merge the accounts based on their preference.

I've had a couple members that couldn't get into their old accounts, and I merged their accounts with the new one. This recently happened again.

I think it's a issue from when my site was previously using MyBB, and we merged to Xenforo.

Sometimes, members are not aware if they have an account or they can't get into their main account, so they make another and then contact the staff members. Those people are fine, and they have a reason.

I do not allow more then one account per person, but most that do end up doing more then one accounts are spam bots

I haven't had this happen to me on my forums, but I was someone who made multiple accounts on Glitch City labs back in the day, since I didn't realize there was a forgot password link back then. :V If I find out that someone has signed up twice, I would wait to see if they had issues with their previous account, but if they don't respond I would reach out and remind them of their other account. If they still don't respond I will just merge the accounts.

This Is good. Talking or listening to the members talk to you is very important. They might be having an issue with the old account and wants a new account to help.
