Have you ever participated in a merging of forums?
Did the merge work out?
What were the benefits you received on the new forum which the old forums merged into?

I must say that I have never participated in one. I have heard that they don't normally work out. Benefits usually are staff positions.

I don't recall merging any forums of my own, but I have been a part of forums as a member that have merged with other forums before. I think in that particular case, it worked out because it made the other community look more active. So I think it's really one of those things that can go both ways, to be honest. Either it works, or it doesn't.

I have never tried merging. I have never really figured out why someone would spend tons of time trying to make their forum a success, then proceed to merge with an another forum after putting their heart into their current forum. Yeah sure, I can see some people wanting to merge, when they have a niche forum that doesn't take off, and wants to have some help by merging into an another forum, or having an another forum merge into them, but still.

I recently merged one of my own with Dashing. Nothing really happened.

They work though when both communities think it's of their best interests.

I merged once. At first it was good, we had more active members, more posts e.x. But after a while the forum eventually died, i lost interest and sold it.

I haven't merged ever, I would only merge really if the users were coming to my site... lol

I am looking to merge with forums but keep everything my side intact. A lot of dying forums will happily merge if they think the forum they are merging with has a better chance of success.

I've had a few people try merge with mine and the most recent one broke it off after she made a rather drastic change without consulting anyone about it, so when me and my other admin undid the change, she got pissed and left.

Mergers work ONLY if you COMMUNICATE and don't make executive decisions before agreeing on them as a team.

I merged an alliance I acquired in a game called CyberNations: Tournament Edition (Which I actually liked at the time) and it was merged with an equally powerful alliance to form NWAC.

It failed later on. Barely helped.

(By acquired I mean we had a vote on a new owner after the second one resigned and I won.)
