Meta tags and description

Is it true most search engines ignore meta tags? And that it is useless?

Most search engines don’t even read this tag anymore so it certainly does nothing for your search engine rank (at least for the search engines that really count.)

If you completely read it, it says it is not entirely useful anymore. Algorithms changed and other factors come in.. do you think it is worth spending the time to do this?
Also, do you think it works/ever worked?

Also stuffing keywords like crazy; one example is watching a nice song on youtube then clicking "More Description" to see "boobs" one of the keywords.. Google and other search engines hate irrelevancy. Can stuffing keywords do more harm than good?

I'd really appreciate your answers.

P.S. can using a few meta keywords, say 3-5 per page be good?
It is certainly good in forums (where tags are allowed) when searching but how about search engines?

I want to be indexed by google faster and appear in higher pages by adding meta tags relevant to my website. But google downgrades PR by meta tags... Please? Help?

And, if the website is already indexed, are meta tags useful or not?

Excuse me?
I am not asking whether stuffing meta description and meta keyword will help me or not. They will take 1 hour total.. no problem.

I am asking whether google will penalize me or not.
You know what? Read my 1st posts then answer back.

I don't wanna risk being penalized by google... i got indexed within 3 hours (no using pingomatic or anything! I was going to make a post then ping but before making the 1st post i got indexed.. don't ask how)

Adding a few meta keywords to each page of your site won't get you penalised, providing you are not stuffing those keywords and that they are relevant to the content of the page you are on. They may not help a lot, but they won't hurt your site, so it's worth taking a few minutes to add them.
