So...what are the different methods of promotion out there. There are the obvious ones like: forums, social networks, blogs, link databases...what are some of the less known ways.

I just advertise on forums. Whenever there's a opportunity, i advertise.

Facebook, Twitter, Forums, Blogs.

Yeah they are all good methods. I'm looking for the slightly less used ways of promotion.

Definately. Do people know much about Youtube promotion. Affilite Programs. Link Wheels?

Word of Mouth. That's the best one as you know someone has heard of the site. Also, just placing business cards at your local shops or placing flyers in people's letterboxes is some strong added exposure.

Social networks, Promotion forums, Webmaster forums, link referral sites, word of mouth, joining similiar forums etc.

I've heard various times, that you should join forums in your niche and place your fourm/site link in your signature and be active on those forums. I've also heard that you can comment on blogs related to your niche and leave your website in the comment.

Those are 2 things I know that can help boost traffic over time.

Have you done that or know anyone who has? How did it work out? I 100% agree with you on word of mouth, it's one of the most important yet most neglected forms of marketing and communication.

I know of some local companies who probably only want to target a certain area. From a few flyers, I've actually been interested in a few, so it goes to show the smallest of all things can be a major revenue decider (as this was a pizza business 🙂).

Well the best way i have come across is link mail threads via email you make a chain email then at the bottom put blah blah blah johnny will kill you and eat your guts if you dont register to this site and send this to atleast 15 people if you send to 50+ you will get 3 wishes thats what i do...

Try submitting your site to social bookmarking sites like Stumble Upon or Digg. That might help get traffic in the long run.

Thanks dotDavid, you are absolutely right, we should not forget about or ignore traditional offline marketing methods when promoting our websites.

LOL, I wouldn't recommend that method Eruption Forum, a bit too spammy for my liking.
