Anybody remember using Microfiche?
For those not familiar, it was a thin, flat sheet of transparent photographic film scaled down small. Since they were too small to read, there were reading machines that magnified the images.
I was really surprised to learn that even with all our tech, people STILL use microfiche in today’s age.

I remember going to school and using them in the library; it seems so long ago.
Reminds me of old floppy disks.

When I first moved to the US I lived in Arkansas for a while, they were quite popular there!

I remember these from when I was in school but I didn't know that was the name for them. I remember that teachers would use them as part of lessons and we would also use them in assembly when we sang hymns in the assembly so that the words were seen and everyone knew the words. I remember teachers calling it a projector but they never mentioned a name for the sheet with the words on it.

Everything was harder before computers. Do you remember when you wanted to know something you had to either call somebody that might know the answer or just wonder? The name of a movie or song or any random bit of information. Not like you could even find that at the library.

I sure do remember this so well. I always remember as a kid I would be sitting and my Mum and my Grandma would be talking about a TV show or movie they had watched and they would start talking about other movies on so many occasions I remember my mum not being able to remember the name of an actor or actress in a movie and she would always say "It's going to drive me crazy now"

That doesn't happen so much now as she just uses her phone and Googles it. How times have changed.

I like the days when I went to the cinema as a kid and talk about it more then. Now it's at home streaming it.. Not the same

I hated using microfiche machines at the library! We were allotted a certain amount of time that we could use them, I think an hour tops, and it was hard shuffling through one film to find the article we needed. I really appreciate having Google at my fingertips.

Here's a quick video on how to use the reader machine:

I remember seeing them in movies and shows but I never seen one in real life. I suppose by the time I started school in 1995, all these were phased out and replaced with computers in my elementary school.

It's such a shame that things have changed the way they have. The last time I went to the cinema was when Austin Powers Goldmember was in the cinema, I remember it not being too expensive to go and watch the movie at all and I, and my friends had such a blast. Nowadays it costs so much to go to the cinema and it's cheaper to be able to watch it at home when it's available and it does take away that fun of going with friends and chatting to friends about the movie you just saw.
