Microsoft has agreed a deal to purchase Nokia’s mobile phone business for 5.4bn euros ($7.2bn; £4.6bn).

Thoughts?

Slightly sad about it. But at the same time they did say they would move away from the ridiculous numbering and naming of phones that Nokia have always done.

People prefer simplicity in Phone names these days, and I agree. If you asked me what a Nokia 7058 is (Probably isn't a phone, but shows how easily confused it is!), I wouldn't have a clue. Everyone will ALWAYS know what an iPhone 3G is though for example.
At the same time I was always hoping Nokia would at-least take a little venture in to Android phones, but I guess that isn't an option at all now.

1. Microsoft x-employee goes to Nokia to become CEO
2. Nokia suddenly decides Windows Phone is their future when actually everyone was choosing android over windows phone os.
3. Then Microsoft buys Nokia and the ex-employee goes back to Microsoft again.

A perfect trojan op.

Really? Didn't actually know about that!

Maybe stranger things are actually afoot here. Seems like it's been the plan since the beginning.

Nokia being owned by MS would not increase my chances of buying a Nokia Microsoft Windows Phone as an alternative to Android, iOS, Ubuntu for Android, or cheaper alternative smartphones like Firefox OS phones.

I read articles where Windows Phone still doesn't have an official YouTube app, and other apps are not on Windows Phone yet while Android, and iOS have Apps which still are not available on Windows Phone.

A lot of the games available on iOS, and Android, are still not available on Windows Phone.

If this the case, Looks like Microsoft is putting their hand in every communications market, just like they did with Skype.

I like any Windows based product and got a chance to use the new Windows tablet and yeah it's actually awesome. I don't know if this purchase would influence my purchase. So long as it's Windows, I'm in.
