I read an article a few weeks ago that explained that Microsoft has chosen to take advantage of the Chromium project for their browser core instead of building their own. I personally believe this is quite possibly the best step Microsoft could take in getting more people to use their browser.

Them doing so also seems like a good way to really start streamlining website compatibility that we don't currently seem to have, ie some websites look different in each browser due to the way they're coded for each.

When Microsoft completes this I believe Firefox and maybe Opera are the only ones that haven't made this switch and makes me wonder if they plan to.

I think most of us will stuck with Chrome and firefox.

I doubt people will switch away from their existing browsers, however I do believe that we will see a higher adoption rate of Microsoft Edge in the near future since it comes installed on the computer and, unlike previous browsers by Microsoft, may actually operate and run at a good enough caliber that users may feel less obligated to install another app onto their machines.

Considering Firefox just copies Chrome since v4 I guess it will one day switch to Blink given how much they love idolising Chrome while alienating the original fan base of FF, Opera did in 2013 switch to Blink and then in 2016 became a usual generic Chinese application when they sold it to the Qihoo commies...

I knew of this before but, I should tell you that despite the radical change, it will still be "Edge" - just made differently. Also, I heard that Microsoft may push this out to Windows 7/8.1 users. Ehh, no thanks.

Well, Chrome offers extensions and whatnot... so why leave to another that doesn't have that option. I mean I can add an nice theme background on chrome

I love Edge as is, but we'll see how that goes. I'm definitely going to check it out when it releases.

They probably will, there isn't anything stopping them since Chromium works on those operating systems. It'll even work on macOS and probably Android (haven't confirmed that).

Has their been any confirmation that Edge won't be able to tap into that ecosystem? If you download the Chromium browser itself you can use the Chrome Web Store I believe so what would stop Edge from doing the same if it is using Chromium?

Don't see why they should have this for 7, given that support for it will end in about 13 months

maybe they won't push it out in an update, perhaps it'll just be available for download if anyone wants to?
Hopefully, but knowing Microsoft, they'll just force it on everyone because, they can. Remember this GWX crap they pushed out three years ago?

It’s UWP so probably no and they’re trying to kill off W7 like the plague

This is very problematic. It means that Chrome will be even more of a monopoly than it is now and smaller players will have less of a voice in web standards leading to them becoming even more marginalised.

The high level of competition on the web was incidentally what led to all the advances we see now.
Remember when IE6 had 90% market-share and there were practically no updates in an entire decade?
