So I am thinking about migrating from PhpBB to MyBB. MyBB kind of seems simpler to me. And Installing mods an such on Phpbb is a bit complicated for me, and it is SO simple on MyBB among other things.

Any Suggestions? Pros? Cons?

This really shouldn't be our decision, it is your forum and your decision. Just check out both software thoroughly and make your decision.

One thing to note, it is really easy to convert to MyBB using their converter. So there is something to consider. But just because it is easy doesn't mean it should be done.

Not really asking for you guys to make the decision, just want some feedback from members that use Phpbb and members that use Mybb, that have more experience than me.

To be honest, I would convert the other way, every myBB forum i'm on gets spammed so much.

I made a demo board on a domain, no one knew about, one month later, thousands of members and thousands of spam messages for a domain no one knew about.

It's your choice though, it's just there's not THAT many good themes, so go for something custom, or if you can spare an arm and a leg, buy XenForo. I've had great experiences with it and the community is awesome.

Even a phpBB fresh install as it is gets tons of spams. By installing plugins like security questions spamalyzer, etc; has proved to prevent spam for MyBB. 🙂

I always find free MyBB themes better than free phpBB ones. Every free phpBB theme looks like prosilver. 🙁

Converting to MyBB is the best choice. MyBB has the best development cycle and stability. 🙂

I've put a fresh phpBB install up before, same circumstances and it didn't get spammed, it was actually getting more traffic too and I hadn't told anyone about it.

I like the free PHPbb themes better- but premium and custom Mybb ones can look awesome! 🙂

Maybe. But my experiences says otherwise. 🙂

Hello~

I for one am a person who had her forum transferred from phpBB to MyBB before. Mostly because I was having too many problems with phpBB in terms of adding modifications and such. With MyBB, I am satisfied so far. Easy to handle for me and members too. Based on my experience I approve of this decision, but maybe you want to try a live demo of MyBB first and try few things before deciding. We can tell you everything we have but first-hand experience is still the best.

All the best! 😀

Yeah I went ahead and installed Mybb, so that I can give it a shot. Didn't switch over yet, but install it so that I could test it out. So far I like it a lot, but I am going to play around with it for a few more days to make sure I am completely satisfied!

For a free script you're doing better with mYBB. If I was using non-premium scripts anymore that would be my pick

Switching from phpBB to MyBB was the best decision I made. I am a tech-savvy sort of guy and MyBB is so easy compared to phpBB to modify and customize.

Good luck!

I made the switch and I really like it. The only problem I had with the merge system was the attachments. I could not get them to display. This is a common problem from what I read, and there were some "fixes", but none of them worked.

So I had to download all the attachments, and re upload them. There were less than 40 so it was not too time consuming.

But just beware.
