As already been stated, you can't go by age but by maturity. The co owner of the CMF with me was only 12 but look what we accomplished...a forum with half a million posts in just 1 year.
Wow dude that was totally not needed. Not to mention that is totally false.
Kids these days are learning through computers. Meaning they have to learn to type. I have been around computers since first grade. i had to learn to type in second.
So please do not ay 6 year old cannot type. Also do not call them an it they are a human.
As I have stated numerous times before, while there are, by all means, exceptions, age and maturity tend to walk hand in hand. While age is not a factor in my selection of staff members, I have only once ended up hiring an administrator under the age of 21.
Well obviously they can't be a COPPA violator so at least thirteen due to the law.
I find that adults are more likely to be mature then children BUT this is not always the case so it's really on a case by case basis.
I know of a 13 year old who was incredibly mature for their age while a guy twice her age acted like a total five year old whenever someone felt like liking something he didn't like or hating something he liked. Age can be used as a general guideline for expected maturity but I wouldn't ever go solely by that.
I don't really care. Right now I've got one other moderator apart from myself, and I don't know his age and he doesn't know mine. And as I'm not based in the USA I don't have to comply to COPPA, which I think is a stupid law anyway since the parents should keep an eye on their children.
While I do go by age for the most part, I also go by maturity level as well. If someone states that they're 13 but they act like they're only 8, don't know what they're doing or anything, then it's obvious that I won't consider them for the position at all. However, if they're thirteen and they act their age, then I'll take them into consideration. I know of one forum for sure that does "trial runs" with applicants; you know, they go for so long in a certain position, and then the staff kind of observes them as to how they're doing, and then if they feel that they're doing the job right, then they've obviously got the job, no questions asked. However, if they didn't do so well, then they won't get the position. I think their's is like a job-shadowing kind of thing, is what it is, and really, I think that's a good practice, because it'll help you as the owner, determine whether or not someone is in a position to do the job and do the job well.
well age does matter a little but mostly its just the maturity and also the skill of the person. if its mature but dont know how to handle situations, then there is no use for him.
Age and Maturity go hand in hand for the most part. While I do set an age limit for jobs on my forum, I don't use it as a cut off line. It just helps me better understand them and what I should/could expect from them. Again some kids who get power can be a bad thing...goes to their head, I have seen it on several forums before.
I say age isn't an issue, as long as the person is atleast 13. But then again, you have to judge whether they are mature enough, and if they have experience then that's even better. If not, simply make sure you know the person well enough to determine maturity then give that person a 1/2 week trial as admin.
I create my own websites and forums, have been doing so for 2-3 years. I'm 14. 😉
There is no age on my forum to be an Admin, but I really don't need any Admins on my forum, I get along being an Admin on my own. To be honest though the younger the Admin the more 'messy' a forum tends to be.
I don't want to offend, some young Admins do a really good job but sometimes forums and websites can be poorly set out. Personal opinion really. If I had to choose an age though, it would be 13 as a lot of forums require you to be at least 13 to sign up.
