Do you use mock-ups when you're designing? I mean, do you plan your design out on paper so as to have a good idea of what you're designing is going to look like, and how it's going to work, before you even start coding?

Personally, I try and do that for every major project. Speeds up the coding process quite a bit.

Do you 'port it over to photoshop or something similar? Or do you just work off the drawing from when coding?
 
I do everything in my head then start building via photoshop & CSS, I have an incredible memory for details so it works pretty well.

I have a photographic memory, so even if I do a crappy mock-up, I can at least let the vision I have in my head be on the page, and fill in the details in my head. From there on, it's pretty much memory, but I really need that initial visualization to affirm the design in my head 🙂
