Moderating users posts?

What do you do to say you've edited or deleted or locked a topic etc.. ? Do you just do it and say nothing or do you type. Topic Locked and what do think about this?

Honestly, it all depends on my mood, and what was posted. For instance if it was just a duplicate topic then I will say as such and then merge it.. but if it is a bot then that is a different story..

Here are some instances in which I've replied to a spammer.. the funny thing is they kept visiting the forum for about a week later..

This forum is alive? If yes, please remove this topic and my account.

And judging from the title I'd say that you were a spambot.

I am presenting a ban which are deter a--hole spammers such as yourself from spamming my forum any further. Not only will you never be able to post again, but your site will be added to my word filters, and you'll also be wildcard ip banned from this forum preventing you or any other a--hole from coming back with a similar ip. You know.. I don't care that you bumped a topic that is more than 1½ years old to say that, but you might have been more believable as a legitimate member if you didn't post a link to plagiarized term papers in each of your posts here..

I try to give a valid explanation for my actions where possible, locked topics always, if it's just an edit then I tend not to, like a typo correction or double post etc. Obvious spammers I just don't waste my time on, straight to the trash bin for them. 🙂

I rarely lock topics, or perform consequential edits (i.e., more than a fixed typo or formatting), nowadays, but when I do, I always respond explaining what I did and why, and encourage the member to contact me via PM or in the official feedback topic if he takes issue to it. I may also instead send a PM, especially for moved topics.

Well I would give them a warning about there post, then moderate them or keep a close eye on them till they gain trust again, if they do it repeatedly I will move all topics to staff trash and IP ban them. I do give warning once, if again topic locked.

Anything from bots I just delete. They are pretty easy to spot. I don't do much moderating outside of fixing mistakes most of the time. I have a rather decent community that doesn't require much of any moderation. 😀

Who was trying to be funny? I never said they were. I was being honest. I only said that my response depends on my mood and what was posted, and then posted some examples of what I have said to spammers before locking their topic.

Personally, I really don't care if you or anyone else thinks it is funny.. I won't be losing any sleep over it, and really, I could care less about what you think. If I made someone laugh, then great, but I wasn't trying to be funny. I simply replied to the topic, just like I have replied to every other topic here. Do you wish to go through my other replies here and tell me the same as well?

I never stated an opinion, I simply replied to the topic and with examples of what I've said.. to which, you replied with the incorrect assumption that I was trying to be funny. You made a snap judgment about me and I corrected it.

Simple as that.

So, no hate here, just correcting your assumption.
