Are your websites monetized? How important is website monetization for you?
Well, my websites are monetized. Website monetization is very important for me because I cannot run websites from my pockets.
It's important to me in terms of blogging. I'm monetized and earning a second income because of it. It's allowing me to get out of debt and buy stuff I want even if I don't exactly need it, though I try to be responsible on what I buy.
But for forums? I'm not in the money-making mindset with them right now. They're a fun hobby. I can chat with people that share a passion that I have. I can do that without being infested with ads and popups by having my own community about it.
Maybe one day I'll work on non-intrusive ways to monetize my forums enough where they pay for themselves. That would be fine.
It's a crucial part of sustaining a website. Without that revenue, it would be tough to keep everything running smoothly. It allows the owner to focus on creating quality content and growing.
For me when I set out to create forums back in the day, it was never about them
Making money for me, I set them up to bring together like minded individuals who share an interest in a common theme/topic! Sure if it made a little money from advertising to help cover the running costs then that was a nice bonus.
