Monetizing Account Upgrades

How do you guys feel about monetizing account upgrades. As an example, let’s use an RP forum. Account upgrades could be purchased through donations for name changes, custom titles, custom colors, etc. if they have a currency and shop, maybe a special item can be purchased etc.

Sites like these use donations to pay for their server’s maintenance and cost, domain, new features and the likes. What are your thoughts on this?

I think it’s okay for a bigger site but not for one that’s just starting out. When you create a site, it’s basically expected you’ll be forking out some expenses.
