Money to join

Do you think I should charge money for people to join a star wars site?
Absolutely not. From your other threads I can tell you are hosted on forumotion, and are a fairly new forum, so adding a cost to join yours would set you up for epic failure. There are tons of huge star wars forums out there that are free to join, so yours would be lost in the mix if you were to charge.

Personally, I'd say no, if some one does that I wouldn't join and then your forum would die.

Well why not just make them when they sign-up then they pay but they can be viewers for free?

No. There's already other star wars forums out there, why would someone pay for another?

lol no one would pay to join your forum. In fact, no one would pay to join any forum advertised on FP, apart from maybe 1-2 boards.

No. Do not. Charge for services maybe, not joining. A good idea would be to charge for some of the PREMIUM forums you *have*.

HELL NO, especially when there are much bigger and more established Star Wars forums around that are free to join.

I bet you anything that no one will join if you charge membership. You will end up going into a large ditch and end up failing, to tell you the truth.

To charge for membership you are going to have to reach a critical mass. I'd say about a million posts and around 50,000 members. Also, you'd need to be a bit more than a Sar Wars forum... You'd want to have other attractions to offer.

However, when you get about a thousand to two thousand members, you can start a VIP membership scheme. Members could pay for additional priviliges.

So yeah, wait until you reach a critical mass before trying such a thing. You aren'tas large as Something Awful yet, are you?

I would never charge, for access onto a forum.

How come people keep on joining Something Awful? They charge ten dollars or so for membership and are doing just fine.

Of course they have over one hundred thousand members and two million posts, but it just shows that it is possible if you reach a critical mass.

If you aren't ambitious, you won't succeed.
